2nd Annual Black Lily Film & Music Festival: May 1-4, 2008

Black Lily Defined: Black Lily, Inc. (a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization) is committed to supporting women artists of all ages, especially musicians and filmmakers, both emerging and established, by highlighting their work and providing opportunities for networking and training. Black Lily, Inc. values women’s voices and seeks to educate the general public about the importance of women’s art. We value politically conscious art and underground art, and we are dedicated to education, diversity and collaboration through art, culture and entertainment.

History:
Black Lily helped to launch the careers of many of today’s most progressive recording female artists including Jill Scott, Floetry, and Jaguar Wright—many refer to it as the hub of the early 2000′s neosoul movement. Black Lily has received international recognition and events have been held in London, Paris, Japan, San Francisco, Washington DC, Boston, and Los Angeles. A reunion concert was held at The Five Spot on September 19, 2006 featuring India.Arie, Lady Alma, Jaguar Wright, Kindred The Family Soul, Jazmine Sullivan, and Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots.
