Overcoming the Bad Economy Blues

We have a pandemic pig virus threatening to wipe out a small portion of our population; the cost of living is rising, while the job market is shrinking; and of course, our economy is in a dreadful state. Having said that, there are ways in which you can combat the inevitable blues that stem from this depressed day and age:

1. Spring is finally here, and it’s an excellent time to enjoy the outdoors. Grab your family and friends and dine alfresco, listen to music, play flag football, or whatever you please. Hiking and bike riding are also great options in terms of low cost recreation.

2. Distract yourself from the bad economy blues with affordable new hobby. You may not have the cash to take up photography or snowboarding, but surely you can afford the yarn it takes to crochet yourself a new sweater for next winter. Perhaps you can try to learn a new skill, or read more – maybe even start a book club.

3. Start a game or movie night with some of your favorite people. Each week, someone can pick a new movie or game to play, and provide low-cost snacks and refreshments. It’s inexpensive and great way to have fun and even better, relieve stress.

4. Put your life into perspective by volunteering to help those less fortunate than you. The positive feelings you derive from helping others, will undoubtedly help you.

5. Exercise can be a very economical approach towards beating the bad economy blues, and you don’t have to be a member of a gym to do it. Jogging, walking, rollerblading, swimming, or working out to a fun fitness DVD are all cost-effective ways to alleviate stress and boost your confidence. The physical results aren’t a bad perk either…
