She’s everywhere. Folks across the country are familiar with her name, her face, her shapely physique, even her family, but there are still those who want to know: Who is Kim Kardashian, exactly? After the dust settled from the Ray-J sex tape fiasco, Kim Kardashian has risen from the ranks of Hollywood celebutante status, and strives to live up to her self-proclaimed title of “hard working entrepreneur.”
Kim has multiple irons in the fire with her various fashion pursuits, a reality show and a new work out DVD. Fit In Your Jeans By Friday, her latest three-series video, hit the stands just last month. The attire-inspired fitness program was brought on by fond memories of getting fit with her friends and family. “In high school, my sisters and I would rent these fitness videos and work out in our bedrooms,” she said “It was a fun social thing for us to do. But it seems since I got a little older and I got busy, I would work out less. Once I got into the habit, I completely changed my life and [now] I work out constantly. I wanted to do something fun and young, that would motivate people to get back into working out – to tone up, but keep your curves.”
In addition to her latest DVD, Kim is expecting to drop her new perfume line at the end of the year. As recently featured in their reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, the experience of creating a fragrance line was full of both joy, and a fair share of grief.
“[There was] drama from the start with my sisters because they wanted a perfume, and didn’t understand why I [went ahead and] did it without them,” Kardashian says. “At the same time, when my mom and I went through this process [together], it was fun for us. You go through the process of picking the scents, but what you think you want, is so much different than what you really want. I went into the factory to put drops of gardenia, tuberose, whatever other scents I wanted, and it’s just so much stronger when it’s the pure scent. It was a really fun process, besides my sisters trying to ruin my dream for me.”
Part of the dispute between the Kardashian sisters stemmed from their inability to choose a name for the scent.
“They didn’t want me to use the name I chose [which was] Dashing, by Kim Kardashian. The perfume won’t come out until the end of the year, so we still have time to figure it out.”
Kim stays busy between shooting 16-hour days for the show (which has been picked up for a few more episodes in Season three) and her various other projects, but she still makes time for her long term boo, NFL player Reggie Bush. Shooting down rumors of upcoming nuptials, Kim sheds light on her relationship with her dashing boyfriend.
“Everyone asks when are we getting engaged. We are so happy, but we have a normal happy relationship. We don’t feel the pressure. We’re doing things at our own time.
“So many people rush into [marriage], and we just feel like in Hollywood, you’ve either got to be engaged, married, having a baby, or breaking up. It can’t just be normal, and just have a happy relationship. I swear, we’re not even exciting. We have the most normal relationship ever.”
Although she seemed oblivious when asked about their experience of being an interracial couple in America, she had no problem explaining their formula for longevity. “I would say the best part, and why we compliment each other are that we’re really opposites, and he totally grounds me. He’s my biggest reality check every single day. We understand each other, and we’re best friends. He lets me work and do my thing because I am busy and it’s frustrating sometimes when you don’t see a person that much. [But] the best part is [that] we have a very committed relationship.”
In a day and age where the socialite can take the fast track to increased wealth and superstar status, Kim Kardashian may very well prove that she has more to offer than a pretty face, keen fashion sense, and all the right “friends.” In addition to her aforementioned projects, her apparel shops Dash and Smooch. Kim is also the founder and chief stylist of a new company called shoedazzle.com. For $39 a month, Shoe Dazzle will provide a stylist who chooses “distinctive” and “trend-right” shoes based on results of a personality style questionnaire.
So, it’s plain to see that whether it’s being mentioned on Eminem’s new track, her reality program, or making moves in the fashion world, Kim Kardashian will remain a fixture on the scene – and in regards to our opening question, Kim Kardashian simply replies:
“I am completely an entrepreneur [and] a really hard worker. Don’t believe what you read about me. It’s literally, probably not true.“
Ok, I seriously don’t understand why there’s an article on Kim. I really don’t understand why she’s even relevant. Maybe it will get the site some more traffic. She claims that her occupation is a stylist, but come on now, we all know that’s not what she’s famous for. She’s famous for a sex tape with the brother of a famous and very successful singer, and because of that, she’s been getting a lot of attention and business opportunities. I know this magazine for giving exposure to people of color, and she is technically a woman of color. But, I come on here to see people of color (mainly black) because they tend to not get as much publicity in typical Hollywood, Kim does. So, to all the people who requested to hear more about her, why not just go to a site that frequently posts about her, or, to directly support her, watch her show? There are plenty of Black, Latin, Asian, etc. celebs out there that aren’t getting the shine that they deserve because we want to focus on typical celeb with no real talent.
Repost: This interview was not done to get “hits” or “pull in more white faces”. Some of our readers requested (more than 20) and asked that we interview her and we obliged. Also, CLUTCH does not look at the color of someone’s skin when looking for subjects/celebs to feature on our site. We have covered and featured women of all colors and backgrounds on this site. We are dedicated to featuring women of color, but we refuse to be placed in a box or told who we should and should not cover. We have very complex interests and likes and refuse to not explore or highlight them because of their skin color.
Hi Everyone,
This is Dede – the founder of Clutch and I wanted to make sure I had a say about all of the issues surrounding this interview with Kim. Clutch was started to highlight and feature women of color – all women of color – but more so young black women. One of my main reasons for starting Clutch was to highlight us in the correct light – which includes the complexity/diversity of our likes and interests. Clutch is a place where our likes can not be placed in a box or “assumed” because of our skin color.
I also understand why someone like “Shine Girl” was taken aback about the interview because of her Google search for “Natural Hair Magazines”. Her search some how guided her to Clutch – which is dope. But, Clutch is for black women with all hair textures: natural, permed, weaved, etc. We cover all topics, issues, artist, celebs, anything we think our audience would enjoy. Also, what makes us different from others is we get our article/interview ideas from our readers. As in this case, more than 20 readers asked us to interview Kim and as always — we obliged.
I was SHOCKED and saddened at some of these comments on this interview – I had to erase more than a couple and some even got lost in our server issues we had over the last few days. But, I did see an outpour of comments from both ends. It crazy that when we interviewed Suze Orman or other non-black people we had no issues but with Kim a whole nother story.
Clutch is an online magazine and blog network for women of color — Black Women. When we [Clutch] was ASKED to do this interview by some of our readers – I saw no issue or problem in not doing so for the following reasons (1) we cover women of color – Kim qualifies as one – believe it or not. (2) We occasionally interview non-black people (please check our archives) (3) our readers asked us too – and we listen to them.
For anyone to come and question Clutch’s dedication and mission to highlight women of color and if we are a magazine for Black Women because of this interview with Kim is disheartening. Because anyone that reads Clutch and know the people behind it knows where our hearts and minds are.
<obnoxious know it all>whether kim is “white” depends on who’s drawing the lines. she’s armenian which is sort of eastern european, sort of western asian, and not quite middle eastern. according to the U.S. census bureau’s definitions, that makes her “white.”</obnoxious know it all>
that said, kim has been “urban” ever since her photo shoot with complex magazine, before ray j or reggie came on the scene.
i agree that she’s an odd choice for an magazine targeting *women* of color. i think she’s more of a *men’s* mag kind of interview subject (she’s most famous for her body).
but to call her an insult to black women and declare her off-limits as a topic? that’s awfully, awfully limiting IMO. kudos to dede for thinking outside of the box and being so responsive to reader requests.
You don’t have to read the article if you’re not interested. But you saw Kim Kardashian’s photo, the topic of the article, and you CHOSE to open it and read it.
And more importantly…She is a person just like everyone else. Yes, she’s done some things that may not sit well with people. Agreed. But if ONE WOMAN who’s famous for being famous can threaten the very existence of black womanhood, we have much bigger problems. Read it for entertainment, or don’t read it at all and MOVE ON.
Honestly, I am not a consistent reader of Clutch, but a friend of mine told me about this whole Kim K. ordeal and asked me to give my opinion. I want to give a voice to the young, professional, trendy and attractive african-american males that prefer our AA sisters, but are also open to meeting others if the person is “right”.
It makes no sense to me why half of these postings are so vitriolic. What’s wrong with all of you black women? It’s almost like someone ripped the scab off of a wound and opened it for the world to see. What is it that threatens you so much about Kim K. or any other attractive non-black female? Is it that she’s sexy, attractive, wealthy, trendy and has a pro-athlete AA boyfriend? Probably. My response to that is get over it. Your insecurities are too much for most men to deal with. That’s probably why you are so comfortable getting all worked up about something so minor.
If she threatens you, get your game right. Hit the gym (get your a** right), go to the MAC store (get your face right), sell a sex tape, start a clothing line or get on TV (get your money right), find a rich dude to fall in love with you (get your man situation right). Don’t get mad because she is everything that you want to be and try to demean her for it; no matter how she got it. It’s crazy because men aren’t nearly as fickle or threatened by the same situation on the opposite foot.
Look at Robin Thicke. His wife is FINE. I mean MAD FINE and SEXY as HELL. Do you see black dudes hating on him or getting all worked up about him? NO. Game recognizes game. His money is right, she was obviously attracted to him, and my man can sing. If you ask me, he’s probably a little corny, but he does him and he’s obviously comfortable in his own skin. Respect. Plus, there are tons of other women out there. If I wanted her, I guess I should have took my vocal classes in 7th grade more serious!
At the end of the day, I don’t know if this makes any sense to any of you, but for real, a lot of you all need to stop being insecure/petty little women. Clutch gives you all a platform to show your individual uniqueness and a bunch of you go and show out because Clutch invites Kim K to do an interview. Get over it and stop hating.
Many women (no matter what color) envy her. A lot of the negative posts are envy or bitterness. Kim K. just happens to be a rich, non-black, beautiful chick with a fine black man and a pretty fine looking life and some people can’t stand it. If you can’t stand it, don’t look anymore. Life’s too short to get sooo angry about these issues.
Wow Clutch! This one hit alot of sore spots. Race, money, interracial relationships, the “big-butt thing”.
I like Kim Kardashian. She is extremely beautiful and successful. Great, but short article. Keep ‘em coming Clutch. Continue to represent ALL women of color!
I think SOME black women just cant handle another beautiful/successful woman period. Take Beyonce for example, when the story was posted about her the comments were off the chain. Me being a black woman, seeing any woman with her game tight, makes me want to work harder to step my game up. I think Kim is gorgeous, has a nice body, smart business woman, and has a good man to match. I don’t care that she is not of “color”. Just reading about her achievements makes me want to be better. Reading about ANY woman’s successes makes me want to work harder and be the best I can be. So what she made a sex tape with her BOYFRIEND at the time. How many of you have done things with your boyfriend you probably look back and say what was I thinking. The tape got out, OH well, that did not stop her from doing her. It boosted her career even more. That should be a lesson, take a negative and make it a positive. STOP complaining all the damn time black women.
I think she’s nasty. I think she put that sex tape out on purpose because her used to be friend Paris Hilton did the same thing and became famous.
She’s the perfect example of everything that is wrong with celebrity now…no talent whatsoever. And the only reason she’s in an interracial relationship now is because after that sex tape with Ray-J she couldn’t get a decent white man to save her life…they don’t want her now.
Sarah, are you serious!? She was with her BOYFRIEND! If anyone released the tape it was Ray J! It’s crazy how you don’t know ish about her and call her “nasty”. Have you been in her bedroom? Do you know her? Have you ever been around her? I am sure all your answers are no.
I am not a big Kim K. fan but on her having no talent. – Did she say she was a singer, actress or entertainer. No – she is a stylist – owns a boutique and this interview covers two new projects a website and a dvd. Get over the envy and like some other people said stop hating on her. If she wasn’t so pretty and dating a fine ass black man you guys would not have said anything about her.
Well if having sex with your boyfriend and having them tape you make you nasty then I guess I am nasty too. Dudes loves showing their little tapes to friends. I am sure it was Ray J. But, the issue here is some black women can’t stand to see a non-black and even Latina with a fine black man.
And who ever talked about Clutch and their decision to listen to their reader request for interviews by interviewing Kim needs to find another spot on the web. I don’t want folks like you on my favorite magazine/website. Go away.
I don’t understand why she is getting press on this blog as if she is covered enough in her own market. There are plenty of black females in the game that don’t get any recognition yet you put others before them. She is nothing more than a fake publicity whore. How is she not like Paris when they’re both airheads and she followed her claim to fame. One isn’t better than the other.
For the record, Ray J has been on the seen since the early 90′s. And Complex interviewed her after the sex tape; that’s why she got the interview. No other reason. Yes, Kim does claim to be an actress, and she THOUGHT she was a dancer, and she expressed how she wants to sing,so I think somebody needs to take their own advice about doing their homework. It amazes me how black women are obsessed over her but are quick to knock their own down. Please stop with all the hating mess. Kim is not god. Nobody is obligated to like her. And not all women are stuck on Reggie Bush. Another thing that’s funny is how the blame of the tape is put on Ray J. You know for a fact it was Ray J, but deny Kim had anything to do with it? SMH. How did that interview define who she is? She told the same old lies and made herself out to be innocent and a victim just like every other times.
Cause Clutch is not A BLOG! It’s a online magazine for women of color. And if you read CLUTCH they interview more new and underrated black women than ANYONE in the game. Get over it and stop it!
This is not about Kim being a “God” this is about a online magazine interviewing someone that their readers asked them too and their other closed minded readers coming by and getting mad because they see a non-black face. Again, I have seen non-white people on this site numerous times but this is the first time I seem black women be SO HATEFUL.
“There are plenty of black females in the game that don’t get any recognition yet you put others before them”
You must be new to this site cause you are misinformed..lol. Clutch does not put “others’ on before us. You REALLY need to check the archives cause you sound really stupid saying that about Clutch. Maybe other online magazines and sites but not this one. Sorry you just lost one.
Blog, magazine…whatever. It doesn’t change that Kim half white/half armenian attention whore, using, lying self is “I’m famous because of a sex tape” from. Again, there are plenty. People always say that black females are hating on her because of this and that, but black females are the ones always hating on each other but are quick to praise the next female of a different race. It’s disgusting and disappointing. Like someone else said, if she wasn’t dating a black man, she wouldn’t get black press.
No, I don’t need to check. You need to read what I said. I didn’t say they didn’t cover the underdogs. I’m making a point of there being plenty of black female celebs out that they could have been covered and actually worked and struggled, and still struggling to get to where they are, before jumping on miss media whore herself.
Lady Luv: Just stop. Seriously. It’s not that deep. Clutch’s readers wanted to know more(the emailed them and asked for Clutch to interview her) about her so they interviewed her.
If you wanna get all mad about it yell at the women who requested for Clutch to interview her. And I actually knew about Kim before the sex tape. She’s a stylist and so am I, so she was known somewhat before but in the fashion circuit so it wouldn’t surprise me to see her on Clutch.
SO I wanna know. Can they interview J.Lo or Jessica Alba? or no?
“No, I don’t need to check. You need to read what I said. I didn’t say they didn’t cover the underdogs. I’m making a point of there being plenty of black female celebs out that they could have been covered and actually worked and struggled, and still struggling to get to where they are, before jumping on miss media whore herself.”
Yeah. They do. All the time. And they didn’t jump. A reader JUST LIKE YOU asked them too. I am happy to know if I asked Clutch to interview someone (maybe Jessica Biel – I like her. Oh – she’s white – so no go huh?) I want to know more about they will honor my request if they can.
