Kim Kardashian, Defined

0f7f7671

She’s everywhere. Folks across the country are familiar with her name, her face, her shapely physique, even her family, but there are still those who want to know: Who is Kim Kardashian, exactly? After the dust settled from the Ray-J sex tape fiasco, Kim Kardashian has risen from the ranks of Hollywood celebutante status, and strives to live up to her self-proclaimed title of “hard working entrepreneur.”

Kim has multiple irons in the fire with her various fashion pursuits, a reality show and a new work out DVD. Fit In Your Jeans By Friday, her latest three-series video, hit the stands just last month. The attire-inspired fitness program was brought on by fond memories of getting fit with her friends and family. “In high school, my sisters and I would rent these fitness videos and work out in our bedrooms,” she said “It was a fun social thing for us to do. But it seems since I got a little older and I got busy, I would work out less. Once I got into the habit, I completely changed my life and [now] I work out constantly. I wanted to do something fun and young, that would motivate people to get back into working out – to tone up, but keep your curves.”

In addition to her latest DVD, Kim is expecting to drop her new perfume line at the end of the year. As recently featured in their reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, the experience of creating a fragrance line was full of both joy, and a fair share of grief.

“[There was] drama from the start with my sisters because they wanted a perfume, and didn’t understand why I [went ahead and] did it without them,” Kardashian says. “At the same time, when my mom and I went through this process [together], it was fun for us. You go through the process of picking the scents, but what you think you want, is so much different than what you really want. I went into the factory to put drops of gardenia, tuberose, whatever other scents I wanted, and it’s just so much stronger when it’s the pure scent. It was a really fun process, besides my sisters trying to ruin my dream for me.”

Part of the dispute between the Kardashian sisters stemmed from their inability to choose a name for the scent.

“They didn’t want me to use the name I chose [which was] Dashing, by Kim Kardashian. The perfume won’t come out until the end of the year, so we still have time to figure it out.”

Kim stays busy between shooting 16-hour days for the show (which has been picked up for a few more episodes in Season three) and her various other projects, but she still makes time for her long term boo, NFL player Reggie Bush. Shooting down rumors of upcoming nuptials, Kim sheds light on her relationship with her dashing boyfriend.

“Everyone asks when are we getting engaged. We are so happy, but we have a normal happy relationship. We don’t feel the pressure. We’re doing things at our own time.

“So many people rush into [marriage], and we just feel like in Hollywood, you’ve either got to be engaged, married, having a baby, or breaking up. It can’t just be normal, and just have a happy relationship. I swear, we’re not even exciting. We have the most normal relationship ever.”

Although she seemed oblivious when asked about their experience of being an interracial couple in America, she had no problem explaining their formula for longevity. “I would say the best part, and why we compliment each other are that we’re really opposites, and he totally grounds me. He’s my biggest reality check every single day. We understand each other, and we’re best friends. He lets me work and do my thing because I am busy and it’s frustrating sometimes when you don’t see a person that much. [But] the best part is [that] we have a very committed relationship.”

In a day and age where the socialite can take the fast track to increased wealth and superstar status, Kim Kardashian may very well prove that she has more to offer than a pretty face, keen fashion sense, and all the right “friends.” In addition to her aforementioned projects, her apparel shops Dash and Smooch. Kim is also the founder and chief stylist of a new company called shoedazzle.com. For $39 a month, Shoe Dazzle will provide a stylist who chooses “distinctive” and “trend-right” shoes based on results of a personality style questionnaire.

So, it’s plain to see that whether it’s being mentioned on Eminem’s new track, her reality program, or making moves in the fashion world, Kim Kardashian will remain a fixture on the scene – and in regards to our opening question, Kim Kardashian simply replies:

“I am completely an entrepreneur [and] a really hard worker. Don’t believe what you read about me. It’s literally, probably not true.“

  1. THANKS Nadia and Clutch! I look at it like this. Aren’t you tired of hearing about the same ole people or having someone tell you because your black you cant like this or that. I am. So if you wanna keep hearing about the same ole 10 black celebs then go to Essence. I respect and love that this site is different and really nothing like the others online or in print if I may say so. As I may not be the biggest fan of Kim, I respect that Clutch does not let people tell them what they can’t and can not cover and really reads emails from readers about their interview request. That’s real and that’s why Clutch is my number one spot on the web.

You know what else. Clutch is the only spot I seen in all the websites I visit where the readers are too extra. I see kim on Bossip and almost every other site on the web and no body says anything, but when Clutch covers it it’s an issue. Some of the readers on this site always have something to say negative or just too damn deep for no reason.

and the hits and pull white faces in was a low blow with no purpose. Vegan step out your box… really.

  2. Personally, I’m no fan of any of the Kardashians, and I love the fact that this article highlights that talent keeps taking a backseat to a few good gimmicks. And in terms of all the bickering, I must agree that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with Clutch “reaching across the color lines” or whatever the hell uptight people want to call it. It’s 2009. Why in the heck are people still tripping over the stupid stuff? To those limited readers I say examine your insecurities, and work to eliminate them. You give your power away by tripping over that trivial junk.

  3. I don’t like or dislike Kim Kardashian. I don’t like the fact that society clings to ANY race that has black female features and give all these other races credit for it. Hence the “J.LO booty”. Kim has a big butt, BIG deal. So do a lot of black women in America. I guess becasue she has “good” hair down to her big booty, then we’re supposed to all bow down and worship her. Our society is pathetic and people really can get rich off of doing nothing or taking their clothes off b/c sex does inevitably sale. I am just glad that I am not raising a little girl in this society becasue she won’t have many role models to look up to and this world would clearly not be made for her since she would be a black girl with Natural hair.

When will our society grow up and learn to at least idolize the people with some talent. Sheesh!

  4. P.S. I am so sick of all the half-naked women on tv then our society acts so interested in them. I agree with Vegan Diva, Kim Kardashian is an insult to black women and I didn’t even read the article. I was annoyed that she was even on a site that I googled when I was looking for natural hair ideas. If there were more black people that were recognized as much as the talentless Kim Kardashian then we wouldn’t have to read about the “same 10 black people”. I love to read about new black people who are actors and musicians that I wouldn’t normally hear about on tv because tv is so mainstream and ran by white men. I hate to state the obvious but it is what it is whether people want to face that fact or not. I have heard enough about the white race’s history. I have also heard everyone’s fake versions of my own black history. I would like to find out more about my people for once and not have to learn about every white, Italian or every other race if they aren’t black. I don’t know my own race well enough to focus on anyone else. There, I said it.

Clutch can do whatever they want and while it’s cool to see new people, I would much rather those new, cutting-edge people be black because they do exist and they are out there. I completely agree with Vegan Diva and her post.
