Black Girls RUN!

Monday Oct 19, 2009 – by

The goal of Black Girls RUN! is to encourage and motivate African-American women to practice a healthy lifestyle and to serve as a fitness resource for runners and gym rats alike. The blog also provides tips and commentary on staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Toni Marshall and Ashley Hicks founded BGR! in March 2009 in hopes of dispelling the rumors that African-American women don’t run. They also focus on promoting mental, physical, and spiritual health in African-American women by:

* Providing information and resources on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
* Sponsoring events to promote healthy living.
* Celebrating reader’s successes and triumphs.
* Creating a foundation to promote mental, physical and spiritual health to African-American teenage girls.

Both women are graduates from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. They both enjoy running and are preparing to run in their first marathon.

Who the hell said Black women don’t run? I used to put in 25 miles week when I was in hs (for fun , not for track or cross country practice) And I had permed hair back then. I still get my fitness on :)
