She expressed what most black women feel but are so scared to acknowledge because they know they will have to take a look at themselves or change. Ignorance is bliss!
I really hope that word spreads to more black women/men that we are more than our hair. If we accept, work with it and make it beautiful then the world will have no choice but to appreciate it. It all begins with us. I appreciate Solange and so glad am free from those tresses of oppression. I can work out anytime!
Is it just me, or does Nia Long’s fake hair sex etiquette seem unnecessary and oppressive? So you are telling me that your store bought hair is more important than allowing yourself to fully experience passion and variety during sex?? Are we that insane?
I kinda agree Chavlovin. While I appreciate Black women being more open about their hair, some of this “extra” stuff I’m not sure is helping. It still highlights the fact that because we put so much emphasis on our hair that we can’t JUST BE! As if we can’t just have sex and worry about our hair in the morning or go and run outside in the rain (that’s kinda fun). I like what Solange was saying…she’s right we do thing on a schedule sometime and things are centered around our hair. I’m guilty of it, too. My goals are to eventually become worrisome and I’ve done a great job of it thus far with being natural and wearing my hair how I want.
ROTFL @ Nia’s weave etiquette! I have to start watching Chelsea Lately, I didn’t realize she was funny.
