BET celebrated the 10th anniversary of the BET Awards last night with a show filled with explosive performances, shock moments and PRINCE! The annual awards show was trending on Twitter throughout the night and this year’s host Queen Latifah had a jokes for days and a lot of Cleo embrace (ummm…).

The CLUTCH team was glued to the television for Kanye West’s rock star stage set and did you see the “Love Jones” reunion skit? We nearly disturbed the peace in all of Brooklyn and ATL respectively with our screams for the sexiness that is Larenz Tate!

Although there was some confusing moments of randomness like El Debarge’s comeback performance, we loved when he sang “All This Love.” And much love to Ninaj Minaj’s acceptance speech: “I’m fighting for women!” Umm…did you buy it? Well, we certainly dug her quick and colorful wig changes!

The show stopper has got to be Chris Brown’s redemptive tribute to MJ. Is he off the hook now? Oh and somebody tell us how we can get Esperanza Spalding’s live rendition of Prince’s “If I Was Your Girlfriend” on iTunes. She rocks!

BET’s celebration of Black achievements in music and the community gives us something to talk about the morning after each year! But what was the stand-out moment for you?

For those of you who missed the show, head over to BET.com for videos of show highlights, acceptance speeches, performances and more!

My favorite moment was Nia and Larenz reciting poetry. It was beautiful and it gave me flashbacks of Love Jones. I love that movie and they still look just as good as they did in the film. Classic Black movie.

The “Love Jones” segment was sexy as hell. That was probably my favorite moment. And I also adored the cute baby pictures of the celebrities who were nominated. Alicia Keys was so adorable!!! And the world finally saw Beyonce’s real hair. Hahahaha.

  • It’s a toss up between Chris Brown (boy had me crying lol) and Janelle Monae’s tribute to Prince…the show was definitely better than last year, hands down lol
