Hurricane Earl more forceful, expected to become ‘major hurricane’
(CNN) — Hurricane Earl continues to pick up more power in the Atlantic Ocean, with winds whipping at about 105 mph (165 kph) and forcing even stronger gusts.
As of Monday morning, the Category 2 hurricane was centered east of Puerto Rico, about 50 miles (75 kilometers) east-northeast of St. Martin, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida. It was headed west-northwest at about 15 mph (24 kph).
Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the Leeward Islands could get up to eight inches of rain and as much as 12 inches in isolated areas with higher elevations, the hurricane center said. “These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mudslides,” the center said. (Continue Reading…)
Obama not worried about Muslim rumors
President Obama said in an interview Sunday that he can’t worry about dispelling every rumor about him — even though a recent poll showed nearly 20% of Americans erroneously believe he is Muslim.

Google plans pay-per-view films
Google’s YouTube video site is in negotiations with Hollywood’s leading movie studios to launch a global pay-per-view video service by the end of 2010, putting it head-to-head with Apple in the race to dominate the digital distribution of film and television content.
Google has been pitching to the studios on the international appeal of a streaming, on-demand movie service pegged to the world’s most popular search engine and YouTube, according to several people with knowledge of the situation.
Google will use its search technology and YouTube to direct viewers to the new service, which is likely to launch first in the US, with other countries added over time, the people added. (Continue Reading…)
