There’s no doubt that this weekend’s place to be was New York’s Rock the Bells. The annual festival took place at Governor’s Island and yielded a whirlwind of notables faces. Lauryn Hill took the stage for an anticipatory performance. The beloved artist belted out tunes from her acclaimed “Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” as well as hits from her years as a Fugee. The highlight of the performance had to be when Lauryn brought out everyone from Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, a very preggers Alicia Keys, and Jay Z to join her on the stage during “Fu-Gee- La.” The crew of influential artists danced on stage celebrating a major return of one of music’s most iconic stars.
MTV News caught up with the singer backstage. Lauryn stated, “It was love back. Love back. Love back.” Lauryn shares more thoughts on her exciting performance. “Reciprocity. It was wonderful to see everybody. I was so touched. I wanted everybody else to share in that moment. I wanted everybody else to see them.”

Really? All I keep hearing is how dissapointing she was. Acting like she’s “nailing it” when she isn’t doesn’t help her. IMO she’s still not ready and she’s certainly not the “old” Lauryn. Peace to her kids.
You are right. She was really disappointing, not like the old Lauryn at all. Be careful because this blog tends to be overly positive. She is not ready to return to the stage but I still wish her the best because she was a trail blazer for women in music, especially hip hop.
wish i was there. :- (
That was nice that she took the time to share her moment with all the “kids” watching in the wings. I’m glad to see Lauryn back on the road. Yes!
A new album in the works? *fingers crossed*
Nailed it ? = negative! :(
My brother-in-law and his fiancé went and both of them said Lauryn whole set was pretty much painfully awful, which is a shame because I’d love to see her back on top musically.
That get-up she was wearing was not the business and she looked like a bag lady.
