Nicki Minaj Says Lauryn Hill Comparison Make Sense
When hip hop producer Irv Gotti compared newcomer Nicki Minaj’s lyrical skills to Lauryn Hill, most of us gagged. Now the lone female emcee herself claims the comparisons to Hill make sense.
Minaj recently spoke to CNN who asked her about Gotti’s comments. In response, Minaj stated, “Irv has been privy to hear things that I’ve done that the world hasn’t heard.” The “Your Love” rapper continues, “Based on the music I have out now, that sounds like an absurd comment.”
But Minaj says when her debut album “Pink Friday” drops, listeners will get why Gotti made the comparison.
Umm . . . are we the least bit shocked that Minaj isn’t humbled, bashful or modest about the lofty comparison? Is Minaj’s setting an unattainable expectation for her new album?
For what we’ve seen and heard from Minaj—underground and above ground—she couldn’t be farther from Hill. A comparison to Eve would be fair, yet slightly another joke as well. There’s that possibility Minaj has plans to explore various topics regarding domestic violence, being the stand-out chick in the all boys crew with lyrical prowess. But to compare herself to L-Boogie? Somewhere Lauryn is having a hearty chuckle.
The “Young Money” artist has even received the haute stamp of approval from the vocal Kanye West. West says Minaj has the potential to be the second-greatest rapper of all time, next to Eminem.
Perhaps Gotti and West have seen a side of Minaj we’ve haven’t. Maybe she will wow us all. The rapper’s debut studio album is scheduled for release November 23.

Nicki Minaj pales in comparison to the great Lauryn. That’s it. Is Nicki talented? Yes, even with all her annoying voices. She’s riding a high right now and she’s just excited is all. But her and Lauryn Hill are in two different genres of music. That’s just like comparing Reggie Bush to Lebron James just because they both play sports. People just ought to be more mindful of the things they say because more often than not, the truth is contorted.
I’ll give it to the person on top. Yes, l.Hill and nicki are very much like the sports analogy. But with them both being emcees and singers you can only look at their vocal range and what they talk about. No one has really heard minaj sing without auto tune and you really can’t blame her for that ( auto tune is still somewhat hot ). All I’m saying is that 1 we have to hear her album to make a full blown critique and 2 we should also concider the two different styles of rapping. I don’t wanna take a shot in the dark here but I wanna say L.Hill is really lyrical like tupac and nicki is like wayne. Ones more of a story teller and the other is more comedic and full of punch lines…………..its just too soon to tell

Well Nicki already proved to be nothing like l boogie and she won’t be like her!!! Now she may put out some songs that are like lh: doo woop about encouraging women and men be above the sterotypes in the blk community, light my fire where she is talking about having a. bigger responsibility as an entertainer than just flossing or being materialistic and not to forget ” lost ones” which was to me about karma for some reason anyway Nicki has the capability to write these types of songs but she has already written songs that would contradict this like coochie shop, drakes verse up all night where she’s being materialistic saying something about….”I can’t even buy those shoes if the price tag doesn’t have a comma but then again who looks at the price tag” so yeah basically Nicki Minaji and Lauyrn Hill should not be compared to eachother…both types of music is cool…I listen to a lot of different Artists and would like to do it on a professional level like doing music reviews but wouldn’t know how to go about that!

I really think the comparison the guys are talking about is talent. Niki can do more than just rap, she is a singer as well. Laura as we all know is a rapper and singer but the edge is she was known for her acting ability before she became a singer. So, yes, both women rap differently but at the end of the day Niki is a good rapper and singer and Lauren Hill is a good rapper and singer. I really think these guys know what they are talking about because they both have a good eye for talent and I think that’s all they are talking about is the talent of both ladies.

She needs to stop trying to boost herself to a level so unattainable for her! Lauryn only dropped ONE album, NO ONE knows her full potential because Lauryn hasn’t even shown it yet.
