Discussion: Where Did Laurence Fishburne Go Wrong?
The news about Laurence Fishburne’s daughter 19 year-old daughter Montana just gets worse and worse. The young woman revealed on her father’s birthday that she has aspirations to be famous like Kim Kardashian by making a sex tape. Now a video has been released showing an interview with a woman, NeNe who claims not only is Montana an emerging porn star, but she’s also a prostitute.

There are just so many questions. Where is Montana’s mother? And where did Laurence Fishburne go wrong?
This is obviously a cry for help. What daughter of a major Hollywood movie star has to take the sex tape route? If Kim Kardashian parents were superstars, it is less likely that she would have intentionally made a sex tape as she has been alleged of doing. If Paris Hilton had half a working brain, her billion dollar inheritance could have secured her a more reputable occupation. Seems Nicky Hilton got the hint.
And let’s be clear, Kim Kardashian can go from sex tape to reality star to a woman behind her own fragrance brand, if a Black woman takes that route, she is labeled a whore and met with nothing less than public abomination and ridicule.
Reports detail that Montana’s XXX movie will be pushed up to a August 10th release. The film will be released by Vivid Entertainment–the same company that distributed both Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton’s sex tape.
In the most recent statement from Montana, the misled girl says her father is less than thrilled. “I heard he’s mad at me, but I haven’t spoken to him yet.”
Surprisingly Montana is certain everything will work out with her father. “I feel pretty confident that I can work things out with him,” claims Montana. “I think he wants to support me in everything I do and though he sees this now as a negative, I believe in time he will view it as a positive.”
What do you think happened here? Is Laurence Fishburne at all responsible? Or did Montana simply fall into the wrong crowd?

I remember a while back….when Laurence Fishburne was promoting “Akeelah and the Bee” and a reporter mentioned his daughter (there’s a photo of her in one of the scenes in the movie) and he basically flipped out on the reporter. I figured at that point that he probably doesn’t have the best relationship with his daughter. Being cut off financially can be a MAJOR factor for wanting to make quick cash. And if it was true that she was a prostitute before…then she could see this as an upgrade (in pay and benefits). This story is so common it’s pathetic. Here we have a young lady with no self-value, no self-worth, probably longing for her father’s acceptance that she clings to any man who shows her love and direction (regardless of where he’s taking her).
So to answer the question, “Where did Laurence Fishburne go wrong?” I would have to respond, Did he go wrong? As a parent, you try to do what you feel is best for your child and they have to make their own way. He probably did all he could to steer her in the right direction. Who knows, he probably offered her a part on CSI and she probably dismissed it or was late to rehearsals. We don’t know if he’s reached out to her. Taking away her car and her money may have been his final straw to getting her to realize that she needs to work for what she has (like he had to coming into Hollywood) . There are so many girls like her out here, so excuse me if I’m just a little tired of talking about her and her ADULT decision to allow her Corbin Bleu afro boyfriend to talk her into starring in a porn film. *Kanye shrug*

I’m in a bit of a quandary, seems to me there is a case of situational morality and ethics when it comes to this nitwit and her newfangled career of choice.
Why is it that some are so ready to blame either of the parents? The youth of today can be given the world of opportunities and still make idiotic choices such as this. The fact that her family has not spoken about this publicly doesn’t mean they are not in mourning for their child; nor do they owe it to anyone to make a public statement.
I’m not saying that she obviously doesn’t have some issues (daddy related or not) but so do millions of other (very) young black girls who end up in porn.
Where is the outcry for them?
Do they all need to have a famous last name to garner some attention?
Little Ms.Chippy D has obviously been aligning herself with a crowd that is less than desirable but this is the culture that has been created and accepted by US. When Snoop had his porn shenanigans going on, I didn’t hear any outcry for those young women; and they too are someone’s daughter (s). When young black and brown girls are on twitter participating in “Titty Tuesday/Wet Wednesday/ Thong Thursday, etc”, where is the outcry for them?
This young girl is now a drop in the bucket and at this juncture some famous “auntie” or “uncle” can either try and save this fool or she’ll just have to learn the hard way.

I don’t think Laurence did anything wrong, kids are going to do whatever they want to do when they think they’re grown. But she is seriously looking for some attention.
Why are we asking, “Where did Lawrence Fishbourne go wrong?” A better question would be what happened with this young woman to make her feel this is her ONLY viable option to be successful in hollywood? I think we can look to the media for the answer.
We don’t know the whole story about their relationship, or lack thereof, so all we’re doing is speculating about what happened or what kind of relationship they have and whether it had anything to do with her decision.
She’s an adult(I’m using that term loosely as she’s BARELY one), and this is one of the decisions she’s chosen to make. Outside of this, I didn’t even know he had a 19 year old daughter, which means her family did a pretty good job of keeping her out of the limelight.
Bottom line is, we can’t always fault the parents for the decisions their children make as adults. You can be the most caring, supportive parent in the world but when a child has it in their mind that they know what they want and what they’re doing, they’re going to do just that. It’s just unfortunate that she sees this as a way to create or propel her career. Does she know there aren’t many pornstar-turned successful actresses in hollywood?

There is nothing that the parents can do when the child is determined to do what they want to do. What is shocking is that she thought that this was her only path to fame? Has she ever met Kim Kardashian or had a conversation with her? She said that she was trying to pattern Kim’s way to fame. Surely Kim would have tried to maybe talk her out of it? Its all very sad. Just have to pray. And maybe her dad could have her committed to a mental institution. Nothing the girl says makes sense.
I don’t have a problem with her being cut off financially. That’s what is suppose to happen if you’re living off your parents and you’re not living right yourself. If you got your vices, pay for them yourself.
However, this Nene did give Montana an out. Domestic abuse, prostitution, possible drugs? Before we were saying, what the hell is wrong with her? Now she looks like a victim in this case. She better seize the moment, and break out if she wants to.

Yes, she’s his daughter, but she is an adult. And like someone else said; where is the outcry when other young black women fall into the same thing? This is her decision. Let her learn. She may be mixed, but her skin is brown and will be treated as such. The porn industry is not for brown women.

Agreed. I don’t think anything is her father’s ‘fault,’ so no rehashing of that. I also get Ashley’s point about doing porn because you genuinely enjoy sex, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here.
If anything, I think this is a SERIOUS cry for attention. People think just because her father is Larry Fishburne, she had all the opportunities in the world, but nobody is really considering the flipside of being the daughter of a successful actor.
Not to say he was a bad parent, but how often do you really think he was around when she was growing up? I can see her harboring a lot of bitterness and resentment towards him… another poster said herself she didn’t even know he HAD a daughter. Add the announcement on his birthday and this sounds like she flipped a major double bird to Daddy, if you ask me…

Why is this article blaming Laurence Fishburne for his daughter’s choices? She is grown and she chose her own path in life.
I think she is doing this out of spite for her father. Who knows what really happened between them, but I am sure this is her way of getting back at him (and the family) for cutting her off.

Paris was never going to inherit a billion dollars or even tens of millions. Believe it or not, Paris has made more money off of her infamy than she stood to inherit. Nicky doesn’t have to work as hard to be famous, when she can just coast off of her sister’s fame to make money.
Montanna is 19 years old, right? When a young adult that age acts out in such a fashion, it’s not unreasonable to question the parents. She’s only been a legal adult for 2 minutes.

Ok, again I ask, why is everyone assuming that porn is bad? I am sooo tired of people “understanding” that men (and women) in loving, stable, relationships enjoy porn (sometimes together) but then simultaneously castigating the men and women who earn a living in the sex industry. What if Larry’s daughter is just an exhibitionist who makes money doing what she loves? Let’s not pretend that everytime we have sex, we are making “sacred love.” Who are we to judge the sexual behavior of conseting adults? I say, give it a rest.
I agree. Maybe she just wants to do porn. It isn’t something I would do myself but who am I to say what she is doing is wrong. Realistically, no parent wants their child to do porn but thats the path she is on. If it is the wrong path she will get off of it. Let people handle their own business.
Too, I don’t think being black has anything to do with her being labeled a whore. There are tons of people who think Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton are whores too. The difference in this one is that Montana intentionally put herself out there while it was an “accident” in the other cases.
Ashley, you should probably brush up on some African American history and the perception of blacks in the last, mmm…..4-500 years. Specifically on black sexuality and women (white too). The same thoughts and ideas still remain, and you may understand why someone would say, “She can’t go the same route as KK or PH.”
Pure speculation, not helpful to this young woman or edifying to us. As far as Kim Kardashian is concerned, you have to wonder about her value system, if the quotes about her 2007 Playboy spread are true.

Well wanting to do porn and then being an all out prostitute are too different things, although neither is a respectable profession.
After watching the videos of the girl spilling the beans on Montana, it looks like she is heading down the road of exploitation. Looks like she has a pimp who will use and abuse her in order to make money. The girl looks as though she is easily led. Unfortunately, sometimes it is hard to know the consequences of your actions until it is way too late.
It is all too easy for her to get exploited and hooked on drugs or getting some sexually transmitted disease.
I seriously hope Montana Fishburne gets the help and support that she needs.
I don’t think Laurence Fishburn did anything wrong nor should he be blamed. Sorry but she is of age and know right from wrong and knows what she wants to do or don’t want to do. Sometimes you can’t fault parents on the decision some kids makes, she is a grown ass woman and need to think and explore why she went down the path she did and what can she do to rebound from it, if she even want to rebound from it. I think using her parents as an scapegoat isn’t helping the situation but fueling it. All your parents are suppose to do is provide for you until you of age or capable of doing it for yourself, love you and hope they steer you right, point blank. She is a little girl lost and needs help, and her parents should step in and try to intervene but again if she is not responding to their need to help her, then what can they do? It is a sad tale…the girl in the video is a junkie, I know those eyes anywhere one could assume Montana is the same. Being Fish’s daughter could have fast tracked her career so it’s something going on with her i.e. a turned out junkie.
