Rihanna to Release New Album in November, Is This Too Soon?

Wednesday Sep 8, 2010 – by

Just when we’re finally getting “Rude Boy” out of our heads, reports confirm that Rihanna will release a new album on November 16. The 22 year-old singer’s fifth studio album is a follow-up to her “Rated R” album and will be called “Loud” according to MTV News.

Rihanna released a new single, “Only Girl (In The World),” produced by Stargate, who also worked with the artist on hits like “Don’t Stop the Music,” and “Rude Boy.” The new song premiered live on the Ryan Seacrest show just yesterday, September 7.

The stylish star says in a webcast on her official fansite Rihanna Daily, “I’m done recording the whole album.” The singer tells her fans she didn’t want to let them down with her music. “You guys are always defending me, so now you’ve got some great songs to justify it.”

But are we just a little over Rihanna? Are we being over-saturated with her manufactured edge, dance song after sidewalk runway show?

What are your thoughts? Is Rihanna’s new album too soon, or is it wise for Rihanna to ride her popularity while she still has it?

Well, at least we know how you feel. You are “a little over” rihanna, and this article (?) does little to hide that. I don’t think its too soon, shes obviously a hard worker. I say, get your money Rihanna.

  2. avatar Bbelle says:

no, its a smart business move…as long as she keeps cranking them out and riding the wave til it crests she’ll be set. besides, I need a song to replace rudeboy anyway :P

  3. avatar CSparkles says:

That’s 5 albums in a span in a little over 5 years. It’s starting to feel like they’ve gone back to the drawing board and trying to find a formula that will work like at the beginning of her career when they kept cranking out albums in order to find the perfect formula.

Unfortunately, she’s one of the artists who can’t live off an album for 2-3 years. Not necessarily a bad thing. If the record label keeps supporting her, just makes me wonder what she’s doing right. How could she possibly be generating revenue?

Rihanna made Rated R cause she wanted to vent, she wanted to express what she was feeling and also she wanted to get free of all those feelings to finally move on… And the best way she found to do that was making music, something that she loves…
Rated R wasn’t supposed to out-sell Good Girl Gone Bad.
She moved on, she is happy again, so she is gonna do what Rihanna accustomed us, hot dance songs, pop songs!!!
With this new album I think she will do the same she did during Good girl gone bad era… during a year she will promote it and release singles, then a year after the release of this new album, she will be a little away, perhaps a re-release to give 2/3 new songs to fans and perhaps some collaborations like she did with T.I. and Jay-Z and Kanye West…
So during a year we are going to hear people talk about her but then we gonna have a little break if we can call it a break.

this is the most sensible and well thought out comment i have read regarding this subject and i whole heartedly agree.

agreed. couldn’t have said it better…

I’m also trying to understand how this could be “too soon” when Beyonce releases an album every 5 minutes and very few complain…

before the Beyonce stans come through to pummel me, RELAX. I’m not disparaging your “idol” I’m making a comparative point.

Is this surprising? That’s what we expect from Rihanna by now.

Although not a Rihanna fan, I think it is not necessarily a bad thing but it is a testimony to the fact of her VERY limited talent. (And i don’t mean that in a bad way, just being factual). For example Usher is only just on his 6th studio album and he has been around for a decade or so longer than Rihanna, and Beyonce is only on her 3rd album.
Artists with exceptional talent (Such as the named above or Madonna) are able to go up to 3 years or longer without releasing an album and still have a fan base to purchase their album when they do eventually release a new one, Rihanna could never do that

      @bosslady

If that were completely true then X-tina’s “Bionic” album would have sold like gangbusters, right? Surely no one can touch her vocals, except for Mariah, and speaking of Mariah, isn’t she coming out with a Christmas album this year, after having released “Memoirs of an imperfect angel” last year, and “E=MC squared” the year before that?

And didn’t Usher just release a new EP mere months after releasing”Raymond vs. Raymond”? Isn’t he also talking about releasing a new album sometime next year?

What about Lady Gaga and “The Fame,” followed by “The Fame Monster” and her forthcoming album which is supposed to be released early in the new year?

So apparently, it isn’t just Rihanna who’s frequently releasing music.

My thoughts exactly! It’s isn’t just Rihanna releasing music so quickly. In this day and age it seems music artists can’t go too long without a record or they’ll be forgotten.

    Practice makes perfect, I hope.

    I agree with bosslady.

    1. Rihanna isn’t that talented. I think people like her catchy music more than they like her. I don’t think she has a fanbase in the US to really wide the wave of her popularity like that. Overseas might be a little different.

    2. Rated R wasn’t that successful compared to her last album. As a music head I know you’re not supposed to compare albums like that but let’s face it: Raise your hands if you think Rihanna is a real musician/artist?? *crickets* Rihanna has been angling to be a pop princess since day one. She is blatantly manufactured so if you’re gonna be pop u better do pop numbers. Right now she ain’t getting it.

With that said I completely understand why she’s releasing another album. All that money spent on those videos and outfits….Def Jam gotta get that money back somehow.

  10. avatar Terri says:

I think Rhianna is a great artist and she has been one from day one. I think that as time moved on she changed accordingly to who she was growing to be. Now for this so called manufactured style, I don’t think so. Because if it was you would be able to tell. Who she is and has become as a artist is who she is as Rhianna right now. You might not like her voice but there are millions of others that do. And there are even haters that will be boomping to her singles on their ipods…..so with that being said she’s doing what she does best and that’s being a singer and a singer comes out with albums. And for those of you that think she can’t sing you need to watch the youtube video of her from high school her voice is and was amazing.

  11. avatar Sweetheartlove says:

As a Rihanna fan I’m bias. I’m not tired of her and quite frankly her PR team is one of the best in the game. Rated R launched her first solo tour and it was huge. Smart move, have this be a launching pad to her next thing, she will do press and promo, maybe tour and leave it at that. She’s always been this way and for those who say she doesn’t have talent, until you see her live you might wanna take that comment back. Just saying! :) Everyone is tired of EVERYONE because in reality everyone was overexposed at one point and time, Beyonce was for that whole time of B’DAY etc. The formula is all about what is working and obviously this one is.

  12. avatar binks says:

No, not really. I view Rihanna as an entertainer not really an artist because true artist can take a break for awhile then come back and pick up where they left off. I think Rihanna make music for the now so she can afford to release an album back to back because her being an “it’ girl and in is her brand for now. To me, it isn’t like she is making classic songs that will be bumped 10, 15 or 20 years from now. She is hot right now so let her ride her wave of success because in this business their is always someone newer, with the right package and catchy tunes that will try to take her place so…shrugs…

  13. avatar CityDiva says:

Rihanna has ZERO talent. She can’t sing a lick and her dancing is effing pathetic. She and the rest of her ilk are exactly what is wrong with the music industry. Music and actual talent are very far down on the list but image, looks, and willing to wear next too nothing to make $$$ are what’s required. I really would like Rihanna to go back to wherever she came from but before she goes she needs to answer this question: Who are you screwing in the industry? You have to be screwing somebody really well to keep putting out the doo-doo you call “music”.

  14. avatar Zoey says:

In this day & age it’s easy to be forgotten whether you have talent or not. You can be hot one minute and the next people forget about you.

I think what she’s doing is a good move. She’s hot right now so why stop? If she takes a few years off she could be forgotten and replaced by another it girl. It’s the same with Beyonce. Why do you all think Beyonce has hardly took a break. Even though Beyonce is allegedly on a break right now she’s still keeping her face out there, releasing music videos for old songs, releasing DVD’s from her concert etc. If any of these artists take an extended break they could be forgotten. Look at Christina Aguilera who took only a couple of yrs off then came back and released a record and it’s barely selling.

Rihanna should continue to strike while it’s hot!

If you want RiRi to sit down; please ask Beysus, BeyBey, Sasha B, her fierceness to sit the heck down 1st!

    Just saying

Her albums and tours never do that well so…..
