Russell Simmons brings a spin-off of his long-running “Def Poetry Jam” to HBO viewers. “Brave New Voices” created by Simmons and co-creator Stan Lathan is hosted by rapper-turned actor, Common, and actress Rosario Dawson.

The 60-minute poetry show debuted last Saturday, October 23, with special behind-the-scenes footage of the 5-day Brave New Voices Festival. The show presents emerging talents in the world of slam poetry and spoken word.

Look out for appearances from Talib Kweli, Mayda De Valle, Penn Jillette, and Beau Sia.

“Brave New Voices” airs Saturdays on HBO.
