Gabrielle Union to host BET Breast Cancer Special

Chicago has some of the most alarming Black female breast cancer rates of all major metropolitan cities in the nation. Data shows that the 36 percent rate of Black woman with breast cancer in Chicago has risen to an unbelievable 116 percent.

Actress Gabrielle Union has become a major breast cancer supporter after losing a close friend to metastatic breast cancer. The 37-year-old starlet will host BET’s “Heart of the City: Chicago’s Cancer Divide” Sunday, October 24. The 30 minute special will discuss the astounding breast cancer divide in Chicago. The program will further reveal insights like breast cancer prevention, and the socio-economic factors that play a leading role in Black women’s diagnosis.

The special is a part of BET’s first ever network-wide campaign, “BET Goes Pink.” The network is collaborating with the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen for the Cure Circle of Promise, and the Sister Network Inc.

BET also launched a micro-site dedicated to breast cancer awareness on bet.com and will run PSAs to raise awareness about the devastating disease.
