Nick Cannon, husband of singer Mariah Carey, recently revealed that his wife is expecting twins.
“We are having twins,” Nick confirmed this morning on his New York station 92.3 radio show. Rumors around his wife’s pregnancy have been exaggerated, denied, and acknowledged since mid-October. Carey’s publicist, Cindi Berger, also confirmed the news.
“Everyone started questioning about more things: ‘Do you know what it’s going to be?’ ‘Is it a boy?’ ‘Is it a girl?’ Are you having twins?’ ” Cannon recalled. “And then that [last question] just took off and went really, really far and that was the question that I felt like I almost couldn’t avoid.”
The reason behind all the hush-hush? Doctor’s orders. Her obstetrician recommended that she not give too many details on the baby because Carey has had a miscarriage in the past and doctors wanted to make sure that everything was healthy and fine and that she wait to make announcements when she was further along.
“It’s not about making announcements or talking to the press,” Cannon said on his show. “[But] because of the excitement, because of the emotion, she was overwhelmed, and she shared with the President and the First Lady that we are having twins.”
