A leading lady is leaving one of television’s most popular dramas.

In an interview with TVLine.com, Audra McDonald confrmed that she will no longer be with the cast of “Private Practice”, the spin-off from ABC network’s hit medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy”.

“I have spent four amazing years working with the best cast and crew on television at ‘Private Practice’,” she said. “Though I am stepping away from the series as a regular in order to spend more time in New York with my family, I am not closing the door on ‘Private Practice’ or the character, Naomi. I am beyond grateful to Shonda Rhimes, ABC, and the team behind the show.”

Rhimes responded with positive, parting words.

“We are so appreciative of Audra and her talents and look forward to having her return to Private Practice as often as possible. Audra has been a bicoastal commuter throughout our four seasons on the air, and, ultimately, we respect and appreciate her desire to spend more time with family in New York.”

Reportedly, McDonald took a leave of absence from the show last fall and had been commuting between New York and Los Angeles for the past four seasons.

Awww, I watch the show and eventhough she really didn’t have a role, I liked her on there. She was the only other Black person on the show. Now I guess Taye D and the white chick, who was suppose to be her best friend can have it. I also hope they replace her with someone who can hold it down.
