Just in time for Black Love Day (yes, that’s what I call Valentine’s Day), the First Lady of the U.S., Michelle Obama, shared a few hints about what keeps her 19-year marriage to President Obama so strong, lots of laughs.
When asked how the Obamas keep their marriage fresh after so long, Michelle O. told The Associated Press that being able to laugh together is a must.
“I think in our house we don’t take ourselves too seriously, and laughter is the best form of unity, I think, in a marriage.”
Too often people join together for superficial reasons. They may look like the perfect match on paper, but when it comes down to it, they don’t have anything to even talk about, let alone laugh about.
The FLOUTS also let it slip that President Obama is “very romantic” and even remembers important dates.
“He remembers dates, birthdays,” Mrs. Obama said last week. “He doesn’t forget a thing, even when I think he is…I’ll have a little attitude. I give him a little attitude, but he always comes through.”
Say what you want about the Obama’s politics, but their relationship is yet another public reminder of the power and transformative nature of love…and yes, Black Love.
