A cartoon released by Andrew Breitbart, the man who was most recently sued by Shirley Sherrod for the defamation of her character during last summer’s white farmers incident with the USDA, has been raising several eyebrows. The carton, which was published on his site, BigGoverment.com, features a mockery of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign and caricatures her as a large, hungry woman.
Although the cartoon appears to be a caricature, some believe that the overexaggeration, especially on Mrs. Obama’s part, crosses the line.
“I smell petty name-calling. The worst way you can insult a woman is to call her or depict her as “fat,” especially if she’s a woman widely recognized to be beautiful,” Jessica Wakeman of The Frisky wrote. “And if that’s the funniest punchline of your cartoon that you could find? Maybe it’s time to find some new material.”
Simon Maloy of MediaMatters writes, “It’s been a long time since I’ve expected anything approaching comity from the conservative media, but this is the sort of stuff most of us left at the grade school playground.”
