Today marks Aretha Franklin’s 69th birthday and given the singers recent health issues, we are more than grateful to see her make it through another year.

For her special day the Queen of Soul is planning a special night out. According to her publicist, Aretha will be taking in a show and celebrating with some of her closest friends. To start the night out, the singer will be attending a special performance of the Broadway play ‘Driving Miss Daisy,’ which stars James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave. Following she will be holding an exclusive night out for her family and friends at an undisclosed location.

When a noticeably thinner Aretha emerged to acknowledge the much talked about tribute in her honor, many speculated she was indeed undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer. But the singer has never confirmed or denied this claim.

Her health troubles have taken fans of the singer on an emotional rollercoaster but today we celebrate the legacy she has made and wish nothing but for more years of good music for another generation to love and find.

Clutchettes, do you have an Aretha classic that is your favorite? If you can’t name one- share them all!
