Recently I came across the award-winning short film, Alisha, by 17-year-old student filmmaker Daniel Citron. The film centers on a young, Black girl who is struggling with her self-esteem and her body image. On top of that, she struggles to maintain one of the only relationships she has—her bond with her abusive father.

As I watched, I was completely drawn into Alisha’s story and rooted for her to overcome her demons.

The film, Alisha, won awards from the Los Angeles Reel and Seattle International Film Festivals.

guys do your homework before you go making nasty comments, this film was made in July of 2009, four months prior to Precious’ release date. I don’t think the filmmaker could have intentionally copied that storyline.
