In remembrance of the September 11th attacks almost ten years ago, Beyonce has released her version of the classic “God Bless the USA.”  The release coincides with President Obama’s visit to Ground Zero, as the administration announced the death of the man who orchestrated the attacks, Osama bin Laden.

“God Bless America” has been part of the cannon of patriotic songs ever since it was originally recorded by country artist Lee Greenwood in 1984.  In 2008, when then candidate Senator Barack Obama was running for the White House, Beyonce sang it during an appearance for his campaign.

Now, with a studio-recorded version of the song, Beyonce is paying tribute to the men and women who lost their lives on that dark day as well as those servicemen and women who have fought for the country’s secrurity and freedoms since.

The single debuted today on iTunes and will be featured on CNN‘s “Piers Morgan Tonight” tonight.

Proceeds from Beyonce’s “God Bless America” cover will go to the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and as well as the Children’s Benefit Fund.

I’m confused (and maybe it’s the attached video that’s throwing me off) but is she releasing “God Bless America” or “God Bless the USA (Proud to be an American)”

“God Bless America” is a totally different song (and according to wikipedia it was written in 1918 by Irving Berlin)
