For our first closet crush on a man, who better to cover than music legend, Prince? Prince Rogers Nelson is a veritable icon and has always had the coolest style. He has worn everything from crop tops to flares to caftans and has looked great and ahead of his time in all of them.
The music prodigy was born 52 years ago in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He taught himself how to play virtually every instrument and released his first album, For You in 1978 at the age of 20. He has written some of the world’s most famous songs including “1999”, “Kiss”, “Nothin’ Compares 2 U”, “When Doves Cry”, “The Glamorous Life”, “Manic Monday” and many more. Prince has won seven Grammys, gone by a slew of stage names, turned vegan, had several famous lovers and has given over $2M dollars to charity.
Through all of his ups and downs, triumphs and losses, Prince has done it in style and some of his looks are moments in fashion history. He has always straddled the line between masculinity and femininity, causing controversy with every turban and every pair of heels. He has gone through an array of hairstyles to match his ensembles including a curly mullet, straight and sleek shoulder length hair and his newest short style, which is actually the envy of most women. He is often seen out in his signature color purple, but isn’t afraid to go against the grain in any color and we are pretty sure that he doesn’t shop: all of his clothing is definitely the work of an expert tailor.
