Kelis Says She Has “No Regrets” Over Divorcing Nas

Two years after a much-publicized divorce, Kelis says she has “no regrets” over the split from her ex-husband, Nas.
The split, which occurred while Kelis was pregnant with their son, Knight, was one of the couple’s most bitter moments.

During the divorce, both sides aired out their dirty language in public, with rapper Nas calling out his then wife in his music and Kelis insinuating that her then husband had cheated on her. The couple eventually reached a financial settlement and Nas was ordered to pay up $50,000 in child support. A judge later cut that payment in half, a small victory for the rapper. During the divorce proceedings, it was revealed that Nas owed the government up to $6 million dollars in back taxes.

Speaking on the divorce in a recent interview with Attitude Magazine, Kelis said:

“I’m not a big regret person. I’ve been divorced, and I can still say I don’t regret it. I’m a big believer that if a bad situation happens, it is a lesson that needs to be learned, just once.”

Asked if she was in better place since the split, the singer told the magazine:

“I’m a mother and I do what I love for a living, and I have enough money to do what I want but not so much that it’s a stress. I think happiness is a momentary feeling but I’m very content. I feel really good.”

It seems that both Kelis and Nas are turning their own corners. The rapper revealed last week via Twitter that his new album would aptly titled, “Life Is Good.”

As for Kelis, the best days are ahead of her and she’s savoring every one:

“My mom told us that when we hit our thirties we’d feel our most beautiful and sexy and smart, and I really do feel like that. I don’t know if it’s because I expected it or if it’s really true.”

Good to hear some positive news from these two.

  1. Nas definitely isn’t regretting a thing. They both seem to have moved on fairly gracefully in the last year. I do remember the gouging Nas took when they awarded her that obscene number in child-support. Fortunately for him someone realized how ridiculous it was and reduced it.

  2. I love Kelis…like the earlier commenter –Kelis is one of music’s biggest game changers
I feel bad that she even got with Nas in the first place–She’s so talented and futuristic–I just didn’t see their styles meshing in the long run–and I’m sad she had to sell herself a little short to the masses of Black people who are mostly too ignorant to be up on her range

I think her latest videos and direction are great! And classic Kelis….
I hope she stays True to Her Path and resist all the media Hype and degradation

She’s better than Rihanna and all those other females in the game that try to emulate her
She should definitely keep pushing buttons and creating diverse spaces for Alternative Black women to go

    Job well done!

    • LOL @ you saying Kelis “had to sell herself a little short to the masses of Black people who are mostly too ignorant to be up on her range.” Kelis is as ignorant as they come…she is a ghetto, former druggie for Harlem NY and I don’t see the masses of “white people” rushing out to buy her whack ass music either. Kelis has flopped since day one and her only successful album was Tasty. Don’t get mad at black people because we don’t buy garbage. Kelis can’t sing and her stage presence is poor…who would support an artist like that. You very few Kelis fans are jealous of other females artists and especially Rihanna because she came in the game and shined….while Kelis old washed up ass is still trying to act like she invented the wheel when in reality she is no more original and has less range and deep than a whole in the wall.

Kelis will continue to flop because of fans like you who make ignorant comments about “Black people” when I don’t see any specific race rushing to the stores or iTunes to purchase Kelis’ music. How can you as a fan of Kelis make such an ignorant statement about a race of people when Kelis is also black?

  3. All I remember Kelis for is milkshake…and that’s because Nas was in the music video…not unless I was seeing my own things. Other than that, she is another wallflower that needs water to resurrect to full bloom.
