Michelle Obama returned to Washington late last night after her weeklong trip to Africa. And with the First Lady back on US, soil it’s safe to assume the White House is giving itself a pat on the back.
For the past week, Africa and the world have been captivated with the force that is Michelle Obama. From her visit with living icon and hero Nelson Mandela to her fashion choices, the First Lady has been a one woman PR home run. Whether she was sporting the latest high fashion or rocking steal finds, Mrs. Obama managed to keep the eyes of the world on her as she made several appearances throughout South Africa and Botswana.
While there were some folks who took issue with her doing push ups with Archbishop Desmond Tutu or ordering fries at a roadside restaurant, the First Lady’s trip was largely considered a success.
Speaking the message of determination and hard work that first captivated folks here at home, Michelle offered encouragement to the youth and women who are poised to become Africa’s next leaders. Indeed as South Africa’s Sunday Independent declared:
“Michelle Obama brings out the best in Africa.”
