As long as Folake Kuye Huntoon can remember, she’s “been into fashion.” After graduating from high school at 15, she went to fashion school before enrolling at University of Maryland College Park. A busy wife and mother of 3, Folake’s love of fashion came full circle when she started Style Pantry in February of 2009 with 3 other women.
Though the road was bumpy at times, Style Pantry took off with Folake’s direction and eventually, she started managing the blog on her own. But it was until her husband suggested that she post pictures of herself that she began to feature her unique sense of style on Style Pantry.
“You can’t give style advice and not post pictures of yourself to gain trust with your readers,” he told her. Turns out he was right. Her style pictures are the talk of the internet, especially Tumblr, where viewers laud her effortlessly chic outfits, beautiful natural hair and flawless skin. Here, Folake talks exclusively to C+C about her picture-perfect style.
Name: Folake Kuye Huntoon
Occupation: Designer/Style Blogger
Lives in: Beverly Hills, California
Coco + Creme: How would you describe your personal style in 5 words?
Folake: Boho, daring, 70s, colorful and edgy.
C+C: How does your personal style reflect your personality?
Folake: I use my style as an outlet to say who I am and put my flag in the ground. I’m not terribly interested in trends and just follow my own heart and whims.
C+C: Is your style reflected at all in your children’s line, Wewe, that you created in 2008?
Folake: Yes, the children’s line is very ethnic, boho miniature versions of what the adults are wearing. I also have an adults line. Because California really only has one season, I do one collection for each line a year.
C+C: What’s your go-to look?
Folake: A caftan! A nice, colorful breezy one.
C+C: If we were to take a peek into your handbag, what are 5 things we would find?
Folake: Wallet, phone, lipgloss, a diaper, and a check card. I don’t own a credit card.
C+C: What are you long-term goals for your popular blog, Style Pantry?
Folake: To eventually become a go-to lifestyle site with Fashion, Beauty, Cooking, and Lifestyle Pantry channels.
C+C: Any advice for up-and-coming style bloggers?
Folake: Be consistent. Update regularly. Support your fellow bloggers. There is room for everyone. Just let everyone know you’re here.
