The effortless style and beauty of French women is coveted the world over. They truly have a certain je ne sais quoi and the rest of us are just trying to figure out how to mimic it.

Sonia Rolland is one of those beautiful French women that totally fits the bill. She was born in Kigali, Rwanda: her mother being Tutsi and her dad French. Due to civil unrest in the country, Sonia’s family fled to Burundi in 1990 and then emigrated to France in 1994.

Even through her tumultuous childhood, Sonia’s beauty and vibrant personality could not be contained. She won Miss Burgundy in 1999 and then went on to become Miss France in 2000. She set a record, being the first African-born Miss France pageant winner which is a great honor.

Sonia is not only beautiful and talented, but a philanthropist as well. She founded an organization to help African orphans named Maisha Africa, a cause particularly near and dear to her heart as so many young children in Rwanda were left homeless after the genocide. She is seen as an ambassador of sorts to the country and she puts a face to the many voices that go unheard there. She has served as the face of world-renowned luxury accessories brand Piaget, as well as beauty brand Mixa. Sonia is a true beauty chameleon, wearing a variety of hairstyles from micro braids to an extremely feminine pixie haircut. She surely has so much more to come and we cannot wait to see what she achieves next.

What do you think of Sonia Rolland’s look and career?
