Five Travel Tips To Help You Jetset In Style

Saturday Jul 2, 2011 – by

With the Fourth of July upon us, travel season is in full swing. With hours spent in the airport and on the airplane, what you wear en route is just as important as what you pack. Here are five travel tips to make the voyage stylish.

1. Throw on a scarf.

Planes are always chilly so throw on a scarf to not only make a stylish statement, but to keep yourself warm mid-flight.

2. Battle messy plane hair with a hat.

There’s nothing like a nap on a plane to ruin your lovely locks. Try a stylish hat like Rag & Bone’s Flynn Hat to keep your mane intact. It will also prevent your hat from being bent out of shape in your suitcase. ($125)

3. Don’t be afraid to wear a dress.

If you are like me, you live in dresses. This does not have to stop at the airport. Choose a comfortable piece in a cozy fabric like cotton and you are good to go.

4. Save space by layering on your heaviest pieces.

Take a cue from Beyoncé and wear your heaviest items: you will stay warm and save space, leaving extra room for items you purchase on your trip.

5. Rock a cross-body bag to keep your hands free.

Between your carry-on, handbag, food and magazines, your hands are literally full while in the airport. A roomy tote can hold them all, but finding your boarding pass might be difficult. Try Bottega Veneta’s Zip Around Messenger Bag to keep your hands free and your belongings accessible. ($1980)

How do you travel in style?

Are you really telling us to check out an almost $2,000 bag?

4Real! If I purchased that handbag, it would be worth more than the items I carried inside.

Who does the author of this piece think is reading this article, Beyonce?

How heavy is your clothing in the summertime?

dresses are comfortable but i’m not too sure about dresses and skirts considering you could get a full body pat-down which means the tsa person will be going up under your skirt/dress to check you in front of everybody around. even if you’re not, do you really want someone feeling/touching your underwear, in “private?”

also, the tsa website says if you are wearing loose-fitting clothes that could hide something underneath, you may be searched. that means, for me, dresses/skirts are probably a no-no.

    • avatar sunshyne84 says:

I think that refers to baggy or layered clothing more than a dress or skirt since they are open.

@sunshyne: I’ve heard from quite a few people that were “targeted” by TSA for wearing dresses and skirts. The “problem” with dresses and skirts is that they don’t allow you to see somebody’s complete outline–and the fact that they aren’t hiding some object between their thighs.

Not that I think it’s right, but since it’s our current system, I would advise that you steer clear of dresses and skirts and find other comfortable clothes for the plane ride.

I can confirm that if you wear a dress, you will be in the pat down line. It was extremely uncomfortable. I do understand airport security and safety but I do hope that the TSA comes up with better alternatives. I’ve traveled internationally and the US is the only place I’ve been where I’ve experienced a pat down. On another note, another thing to wear or add in your carry on, ballet flats or stylish flip flops. If you are on a long flight, it’s nice to kick off your shoes and relax.
      Safe travels!

O_o at the 2,000 dollar bag, also in #4 are we to believe that picture of Zoe is a pic of Beyonce?

    ALWAYS travel light.

For me, this means having one big bag/suitcase, and a small sized hands-free carryon where i can stuff my ticket, Ipod, book/magazine, phone and other items of necessity small enough that my hands can rummage through and find them when needed.

Traveling light is the best way to travel, as it also saves time, money, and that good energy;-)

“hands-free” referring to the cross-body bag..always a great idea for any mode of transportation

because not all of us travel by AIR!!!
