Constance White is a veritable force in the fashion industry. With twenty years in the game under her belt, her newest role as Essence’s editor-in-chief is placing the iconic magazine on a new and innovative path and is showing us all what she is capable of.

Constance White was born in Jamaica and attended Meadowbrook High School, before coming to the United States to study journalism at New York University. She began her career as the assistant to Gloria Steinem at Ms. Magazine, receiving priceless insight and a mentor most dream of learning from.

Constance went on to work at world-renowned brands in the business as a founding fashion editor for Talk Magazine, a style reporter for the New York Times, an executive fashion editor for Elle and eBay’s style director as well as brand consultant. Her style is simple and chic: refined silhouettes, an animal print thrown in at times for good measure, a pop of color amidst blacks or browns. Constance wears her hair natural and free and opts for minimal makeup, letting her true beauty shine through. We cannot wait to see what she has in store for Essence and what other exciting things lie ahead for her in the future.

  • I been a follower of hers for the past 20 years especially when she, Teri Agins and Robin Givhan were once the three most powerful fashion critics in the industry. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for Essence magazine.
