Recently at the American Black Film Festival, Paula Patton discussed her new production company, her partnership with Salim and Mara Brock Akil, and her possible new role in the remake of Sparkle.

Patton, who stared in the Sony pictures hit Jumping the Broom, revealed that a role in the remake was written specifically for her. Although it’s not sure which role she will play in the film, some guess it may be the lead, made iconic by Irene Cara.

Sparkle, which burst onto the scene in 1976, starred Irene Cara, Dwan Smith and Lonette McKee and followed the story of a girl group torn apart by drug use, internal conflicts, and the pursuit of fame. Because the film is loved by so many, some feel Patton—who is absolutely stunning, but her acting chops are somewhat questionable—may not be right for the part.

What do you think, Clutchettes? Can Paula Patton pull off a leading role in ‘Sparkle’? Should the film even be remade in the first place?

Sound off!

I really don’t like remakes of classic movies and I really would hate for Paula Patton to play any of the sisters. I hate her acting and I don’t want to see her in one of my favorite movies. Find an actress that SINGS! Find a nobody… but no Paula Patton or Beyonce…
