Clutchettes, we like to stay on the cusp of fashion, so when a brand manages to blend both cute clothes with a positive message, we’re all over it.

Enter, “Flavors of Her,” a new partnership between I.Am.Her Apparel and actress Kim Coles. The “Flavors of Her” collection consists “limited edition fashion tops from i.am.her Apparel meant to uplift, inspire, transform and empower women and girls of color.”

Daphne Valerius, director of the award-winning documentary “The Souls of Black Girls,” said she desgned the collection after traveling the country speaking to women and girls of color. She says: “I wanted to create a collection that goes beyond just words. I want women to look boldly in the mirror with a sense of self-worth and pride.”

I think every t-shirt collection has a purpose and specific message they try to convey. In this case, it’s celebrating the different shades of women of color, even with the added playful “flavors.” I love the variety, and I especially love the signature I AM HER designs on the black shirts, not pictured above, but featured on the website. The women look fierce, bold, confident and sexy. For me, it represents not being afraid to express yourself, whoever that may be. #loveIt

I think this is dope! First, black women don’t really have clothes that celebrate us in a positive way. Food makes it fun and adds “flavor”. Second, here’s a black girl doing her thing, starting something positive and the phrase “I AM HER” is powerful. It unifies us. The flavors celebrates our differences but at the end of the day, we are all mirrors of one another and we are all we have. Black women seem to fall short often times when it comes to supporting one another…lets break that cycle. Way to go Daphne!!!!

Talk about “Fashion Statement” I absolutely love the I.Am.Her collection. For once, I can wear something that defines me that has substance, life, and expression.
