Last month, we brought you the first episode of the much-anticipated web series, Milk + Honey. Produced by Idris Elba in conjunction with the production company Brown Paper Dolls, Milk + Honey is the story of four women in Los Angeles who are working hard toward their dreams.
In an industry that hasn’t carved out too many positive spaces for Black women, the women behind Milk + Honey have decided to create their own.
Watch Milk + Honey episode 2 and catch up on the first episode here.
Thoughts?
Lots of talent with the actors, videography, styling, etc. The script? Lacking. Lacking everything.
Man! I just wish these werent so short! Still loving it though!
Oh and sidepoint: I really must have that ‘tick tick boom’ t-shirt that fine DJ dude had on in the 1st epi. I NEED it!!!
These “episodes” are entirely too short. Which is part of the reason why some may think that the script lacks. We don’t have adequate time to get to know the characters and get into the show before the episode is over.
However, I like it already. Lance Gross added in a little of the sexy which is an added incentive to watch. Nia can’t seem to get a break in acting class. & I’m waiting on the story of the “business woman” (I forgot her character’s name) to develop.
I’ll be waiting on episode 3 and praying that the episodes get a little longer than 8 minutes :)
Brit,
Please pass along the message to the creators of Milk + Honey, that this little manna they be throwing at us, is not working and is very selfish of them. Why can’t we have a consistency in episodes?! I bet the next one, is when President Obama gets re-elected. Not to add that Lance Gross does not have ENOUGH face time…This is really unsettling to my achy breaky heart.
I don’t get how a show can be 8 mins long. I want to get into this show but I just can’t.
Some of the early Awkward Black Girl episodes were about that long (or even shorter). But the difference is that that was only following 1 protagonist and this is following three. Trying to crush three storylines into 8 minutes is a bit much. Also ABG had heart, and so far, this feels like it’s all style and flash. My favourite part of it so far was the part at the end of episode 1 with the women chilling in their bedroom, because that had some spirit. Apart from that, it’s not moving me.
yea maybe if each show focused on one character at a time the length would only be a minor problem.
I don’t think there is enough going on in each episode (although there are only 2 so far). Needs more life if you ask me.
Maybe I should’ve watched the first episode again but it was all over the place and didn’t really make sense to me. I’ve watched longer commercials!
ok that lance scene….
that scene, was my dreeeeeeeam come true.
Oh my goshh, I can’t even explain…
This was MUCH better than the first episode. I think they saw the Clutch reviews.
*snickers*
Waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too short!!! but I love it just develop the stories more!!
Im sorry but this show is just not good..I really want to like it but it needs a lot of work
This is the kind of show I would have adored at nineteen. It’s sincere, earnest and shows young black women being fabulous in L.A., not to mention name-dropping great schools and dating cute guys. To me, it’s basically the perfect web series for a certain age group. I’d give it a gold star.
Sorry but the writing is just no good, almost tyler perry-ish without the the slapstick. One dimensional characters!!! I get it; it’s a short. But dang, how did we get here?
With all the pretentious name dropping of Spelman and Harvard, as if those are the qualities that appeal to a broad base of young black girls who, in reality, have the smarts to go to those schools but not the funds (wealth gap is real), it’s no wonder this latest installment lacks as much substance as the white dress tradition at Spelman.
It’s exactly what this series is so far — safe, conservative, and bland.
Eye candy everywhere seems to me to indicate they want you gaze in the lavish sets, forgetting that there are regurgitated story lines and banal sub-plots.
It’s clear that this show is written from a privileged perspective, which is why we have such a hard time viewing a medium between Tyler Perry and productions like these. At least one can laugh at Tyler Perry’s stuff … Hopefully, it gets better. I’m still onboard
I tried. Really. I did. This show is just not good (I co-sign many of the other commenters: this show is seriously lacking, almost Tyler Perry-ish). Or maybe I’m just not the target demographic.
*Debbie Allen and Lance Gross’s beautifulness are the only bright spots in this show.
I like it! Would love it if I was back in high school. I’d still support it tho.
it’s so short though
To thumbs down. Sorry. Its funny how… With all of the money and time and star power put into this production, it still isn’t good. Story is most of what makes a series worth tuning in again.
Camera lenses and boom mics is cool but who really care if the writing and story is cliche? Seem enough already.
Not for me at all.
