A number of folks were missing from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air reunion photo – posted on Facebook by the Fresh Prince himself – but most notably was the face of Janet Hubert, the actress who played the original Aunt Vivian. In her words:
“There will never be a reunion … as I will never do anything with an a**hole like Will Smith… ‘He is still an egomaniac and has not grown up. This constant reunion thing will never ever happen in my lifetime unless there is an apology, which he doesn’t know the word.”
Hubert blames her abrupt departure three years into the show’s six year run on Will Smith. She insists that she was axed because she refused to cater to the rapper-turned actor’s ego. Smith, on the defense, claimed the reason Hubert was let go was due to possessing a “bad attitude.” During an interview at an Atlanta radio station, Smith once explained, “[Hubert] said once, ‘I’ve been in the business for 10 years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show.’ No matter what, to her I’m just the anti-Christ.”
An additional theory as to why Hubert was replaced on the show by actress Daphne Reid contends that Hubert violated the conditions of her contract by becoming pregnant.
Alfonso Ribiero (Carlton), James Avery (Uncle Phil) & Tatiyana Ali (Ashley) were all smiles in the partial reunion photo taken last week at a charity event for Sweet Blackberry, founded by Karyn Parsons (Hilary). Will Smith’s Facebook caption of the nostalgic image read: “Got the Holiday season started right with a Fresh Prince of Bel Air reunion. There’s nothin’ like spending Holidays with fam!”
