Mariah joins the list to receive the accolades of BET Honors next year. The songstress has been declared Best Entertainer for her contribution to African American culture. It’s been a rewarding week for the new-ish mother of twins. MiMi was awarded a humanitarian prize in recognition of her work to aid disadvantaged children at the Noble Gift Gala in London on Saturday.
In addition to Carey, the BET Honors, which will be hosted by Gabrielle Union, will honor Stevie Wonder, Spike Lee, Maya Angelou, The Tuskegee Airmen and inspirational coach Beverly Kearney. Among last year’s honorees were Diddy, Queen Latifah and Whitney Houston. Recipients from years past include influential celebs such as Jamie Foxx, Yolanda Adams, Patti LaBelle, Keyshia Cole, Ne-yo, Herbie Hancock, Iman and Mary J. Blige.
Performers for the gala have yet to be announced although the venue has been finalized. The 2012 BET Honors will go down at DC’s Warner Theater on January 14.
