A few days ago I received a tweet asking me to help make Ben Breedlove a Twitter trending topic. I happily retweeted the post and didn’t think much of it. On a down moment I Googled his name and came across two amazing videos of the 18-year-old silently telling his story.

Ben Breedlove died on Christmas after suffering a heart attack. Since childhood he struggled with a heart condition which caused him to be in and out of hospitals and have multiple surgeries over the years. In his videos, he chronicled his life and how he “cheated death” on multiple occasions.

While I watched Ben detail his experience, I couldn’t help but notice his smile. Despite all he’d been through, the teen continued to smile and stay positive.

In early December Breedlove said he cheated death for a third, and sadly, final time. After collapsing at school on December 6 he stopped breathing for three minutes. While he was unconscious, Breedlove says he saw his favorite rapper, Kid Cudi, in heaven. Kid Cudi told the teen to “go” and he regained consciousness, but at that moment Ben was at total peace.

Unfortunately, Ben passed away of a heart attack on Christmas, but his family and now the world have been forever touched by his kind spirit.

Kid Cudi heard of Breedlove’s death and was moved to tears. Cudi wrote on his blog: “I am so sad about Ben Breedlove. I watched the video he left for the world to see, and him seeing me in detail, in his vision really warmed my heart. I broke down, I am to tears because I hate how life is so unfair. This has really touched my heart in a way I cant describe, this is why I do what I do.”

Stories like this are not only heart-warming, but they also remind us to live every day to the fullest. In his short life Ben brought immense joy not only to  his family, but to millions through his YouTube channel. Ben’s story is a reminder to live every single day like it’s our last.

Beautiful video! Also, I understand why people think they saw wings flapping in the background, but I thought it was a dog’s tail or something. You know how pets jump up on you trying to see what your doing when you’re on the computer.

This is beautiful and I’m glad he is able to have peace now!

He had a beautiful smile you could tell he spent most of his life being positive. I’m glad he found peace. I hope his family can too.

Oh wow I was crying like a minute into the first one. I’m so sorry to hear he had to go. e was a handsome boy of so very close in age to me. I couldn’t fathom living with the constant worry and fear he probably did. My condolences to his family. I hope he is in a better place.

  • Thanks so much for the blog post. Thanks Again. Awesome.
