Despite some of the negative attention and mixed reviews, this summer’s sleeper hit, The Help, managed to garner an impressive number of nominations from the Screen Actors Guild, most of them in major categories.

The film was recognized in the Outstanding Performance By A Cast In A Motion Picture category. Viola Davis was nominated for her seamless performance as the maid Aibileen Clark in the Leading Role category. Octavia Spencer snagged a Best Supporting nod and she will be battling it out with her fellow cast member Jessica Chastain who was also nominated in the same category.

Laurence Fishburne’s memorable and complex portrayal of Thurgood Marshall in the biopic Thurgood made him a shoo-in for the Leading Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries category.

The 18th Annual SAG awards will air on Sunday, January 29th.
