As TV networks continue to ignore audiences of color, the web has become a bastion for shows by writers, directors, and producers of color.
By now we’re all familiar with the success of the webseries The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl and Milk + Honey, but there are so many well-written and well-produced shows on the web. From black comic book style shows, to talk and travel series, the internet has been great to up and coming filmmakers.
But what should you be checking for in 2012? The list is long and varied, but here are my recommendations for great web shows to add to your que this year.
12 Steps to Recovery
I discovered Tony Clomax’s hilarious webseries 12 Steps to Recovery last year, but the show just keeps getting better and better. It follows Parrish Diaz as he tries to recover from a broken heart. It’s been called ‘Sex & the City meets Curb Your Enthusiam’ and it’s absolutely hilarious. Check out the first episode.
I’m really honored that people are discovering 12-Steps To Recovery and enjoying it. As the writer, director & producer, I’ve had a chance to work with over 80 actors on the show during the last year and a half. I’m thankful that lead actors Kaleber Soze, Stephen Hill, Erika Myers, and Candice Lenoir, as well as my producing partner Emelyn Stuart have stuck with it this long. We are as indie as you can get. lol. We’re preparing to wrap up the last 4 episodes of the season, and then we’re going to do something a little different. Go into production for a feature film that picks up where the season leaves off. We have Paul Mooney and other film & tv veterans joining the feature film cast, so we’re really excited. None of this would be possible without VIEWERS watching, joining fanpages, subscribing to koldcast.tv, Youtube, United diaspora and Blip.tv and spreading the word. Like many of you said, there are some really strong shows out there like Osiris, Dominion, ABG, Champion Road, Rhyme Animal, Odessa and Celeste Bright, which I’m fans of. We content creators definitely appreciate your support. So again, Thank you very much for watching.
Add this one to your list, it’s cool and funny!

Myself as well as the rest of the team behind “Eighty-Six” are extremely humbled to be mentioned along side such outstanding talent and shows. As the new kids on the block, it’s truly an honor. Thank you to all who have supported us by watching. Please continue to spread the word as this is just the beginning. Who killed Tweety-La and why? The plot thickens as the world surrounding Casey.Mac Entertainment begins to crumble. I encourage us all to continue reaching for the stars and giving Hollywood a preview into the future of not only television for people of color, but television in general.
I’d like to invite everyone to watch CHOICES, the dramatic, TV soap-style web series written, directed and produced by Olu Gittens.
CHOICES shows characters from all walks of life who are somehow connected to each other…as we all are.
CHOICES is about the options life puts before us and the things we decide along the way. Life is a series of CHOICES.

Tony Clomax rocks and therefore 12 Steps to Recovery does also! Great work!!
Although we just made 3 episodes for a pilot package, I’d like to add the show I created (Pete Chatmon Directed and Nicole Sylvester Produced) to the convo. Please check out Queen Hussy. We’re on YouTube, FunnyOrDie, and Vimeo /TheQueenHussy! Happy 2012 ya’ll <3
The two Soul Sisters, Kozi and Kyra Kyles are on their way to greatness! I thought that I would never stop laughing after watching episodes from the series and my can I relate!!
Wow, what an honor to be on this list! Thank you so much for including “Human Resources,” and turning us onto so many new wonderful shows. I watched every single one of our fellow list-mates’ projects and plan to support them all. Follow us on @hrtheseries and we’ll follow you back. And thanks to everyone on this blog for the encouragement.
I’ll be watching Journey Me (@JourneyMe.com) where it highlights 7 dreamers trying to reach their goal. I love watching people on their journey.. very encouraging! Besdies it beats watching b.s. “reality” shows like Love & Hip Hop.. when I could be spending time creating my own reality.
So great that you’re out there lighting the way Tony. Congratulations for making the short list!

CHAMPION ROAD:
I want to personally thank everyone for the tremendous amount of support they have shown for myself, and the cast of “Champion Road”. Our goal is to create a uniquely different series with fast paced, exciting action sequences and compelling drama.
The pilot episode was produced to show a small part of a larger story, and if the public demand is strong enough… it gives us a reason to continue moving forward. Please join me in sharing the pilot episode and spreading awareness of “Champion Road” so that we can continue our journey. We have some major surprises in store. Thank you.
