Confession: I was the hugest hip hop head in the 90s. From Bad Boy (Biggie, Lil Kim, Puff Daddy and crew) to Aaliyah to old school Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige, I loved it all. And every music video from any Hip Hop/R&B artist worth their place on the Billboard charts in the 90s was directed by Hype Williams! The visionary, who also directed the cult classic Belly and wrote the script for Kanye West‘s Runaway, is finally getting his due honor in V Magazine‘s Music issue, with Justin Bieber on the cover. Images he photog’d of iconic artists at the height of their careers like Aaliyah, Left Eye, Missy, Kelis, Jay-Z, Kanye West and more are featured in the editorial, appropriately titled “The History of Hype.” He also reveals exclusive tidbits about each shoot to the magazine.
