Another day, another idiotic comment by a Republican operative against President Obama.
During an appearance on Face the Nation, Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman Reince Priebus compared President Obama to an unlikely individual: disgraced cruise ship captain Schettino.
After being asked about the vicious primary contest between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich and whether or not the Republican Party would be able to bounce back from it, Priebus assured the show’s host that his party would be ok.
“In a few months, this is all going to be ancient history, and we’re going to talk about our own little Captain Schettino, which is President Obama, who’s abandoning the ship here in the United States and is more interested in campaigning than doing his job as president.”
Although Republicans have a history of calling the President a slew of names, comparing him to a man who has been charged with manslaughter for abandoning his cruise ship passengers is not only ridiculous, but it’s also a new low.
Whether or not you agree with President Obama’s policies, openly disrespectful behavior–questioning his birthplace, yelling out during the State of the Union Address, wagging a finger in his face–is not only imprudent, but it also diminishes the influence of the office of the President on the world stage.
Get it together Republicans. The world is watching.
