Francesca Ramsey’s video “Shit White Girls Say…to Black Girls” was not only hilarious, but it’s sparked quite a few interesting conversations about race in America.
The video, which poked fun at some of the ridiculous things white people have said to black folks, quickly circled the internet both entertaining and enlightening viewers. Many Black viewers felt Ramsey’s video comically dealt with the subtle racism and privilege some white people express toward minorities without even knowing it, while others felt the video was an example of reverse racism.
CLUTCH contributor Tami Winfrey Harris took this issue head on in her article, ‘Not Everyone’s Laughing at ‘Shit White Girls Say to Black Girls,’ and explained why it’s foolish to label Ramsey’s video racist, and now a new viral video from a man from the blog, Future Talk, takes the conversation one step further.
Check it:
What do you think, Clutchettes?
I’m glad he made this video…I really appreciate him having the guts to speak out as well.
Sadly, this just reminds me that for any and all problems related to the black community, we need a white cosigner in order to get anywhere. Lets face it, we’re not going to be heard in any real way outside of our own circles. *moves to barbados*
Yeah he’s not first one to argue that the parody wasn’t racist.
A few Blacks have made responses; makes this post a bit suspect…
I do agree with the video though.
I don’t need his validation, but I find it so SEXY when the white boys “get it”
I just want to “like” this comment. lol @ “I don’t need his validation but…”
+1 lol
“I don’t need his validation, but I find it so SEXY when the white boys “get it””
Cosign.
I’m not doing +1 yet.
Yes, Francesca’s vid just satire, a joke, people. And a damn good one!
This guy actually “gets” it!
I think I wanna marry him! ;-)
I fell in love too! I never believed in love at first sight before I saw his video.
I love his response….very well stated!
wish more people felt the same way but sadly not and to think some black people dont get it is beyond me.
@Leila
“I don’t need his validation, but I find it so SEXY when the white boys “get it” ”
I agree
So true and truly appreciated.
“I find it sexy when white boys ‘get it.’” Same topic, another day.
The sister already explained her video. Why is he addressing this issue?
Well if he said it than it must be true……..
I think people are just appreciative that a white guy understands why the video isn’t racist and is speaking about it. Noboby said that they need his or any other white person’s approval or validation.
Why does everyone feel that they need to mention that “I don’t need any white person’s validation but…”? If he agreed with the white people who think it’s racist you’d be angry but if he actually agrees that it’s not and see’s where black people are coming from you’re still angry/annoyed?
I think people are just appreciative that a white guy understands why the video isn’t racist and is speaking about it.”
Really? Why would you be appreciative that he gets it? How is that helping you?
Why does everyone feel that they need to mention that “I don’t need any white person’s validation but…”?”.
Because they do that’s why they said it and got fawn eyed over it.
“If he agreed with the white people who think it’s racist you’d be angry but if he actually agrees that it’s not and see’s where black people are coming from you’re still angry/annoyed?”
He is not the issue he used intelligence and common sense to see what should have been the obvious, what is shady is the way it was presented here as if this was the final word on the matter because he is white and the way some have commented on it.
“Really? Why would you be appreciative that he gets it? How is that helping you?”
I didn’t it say it did help me. I appreciate it because I thought it was ridiculous when some people found the Sh-t White Girls Say…to Black Girls offensive and I would much rather see a white guy who understands it then hear from white women who have no concept of what black people experience and don’t know what they’re talking about cry “reverse racism”.
“He is not the issue he used intelligence and common sense to see what should have been the obvious…”
Yeah and that’s why I liked it. What’s the problem?
“…what is shady is the way it was presented here as if this was the final word on the matter because he is white and the way some have commented on it.”
Well, that’s your opinion but I don’t think that was their intention.
” I would much rather see a white guy who understands it then hear from white women who have no concept of what black people experience and don’t know what they’re talking about cry “reverse racism”.”
You see thats the problem right there what difference does it make that he gets it? He is not a white woman, because he says so the charges by white women are dismissed? That would be no different than a black man saying black women have no right to be offended for say something like be white washed out of the Red Tails movie. What you should be happy about is if a white woman made a vid and said I got it since they are the source of the frustration. Thats why this is all BS, people jumped at the first sign of validation from someone who was not even the source of the beef, it was pathetic.
“…what is shady is the way it was presented here as if this was the final word on the matter because he is white and the way some have commented on it.”
“Well, that’s your opinion but I don’t think that was their intention”
The moment this article was named “White Guy Explains Why ‘Sh-t White Girls Say…to Black Girls’ Isn’t Racist” the intention was made very clear.
Tonton: I see where you are coming from, but isn’t the argument white women will be more open to getting it if it is presented by a white guy? I think we can all acknowledge it is a seriously f-ed up scenario, but that seems to be how it works for some white women.
“You see thats the problem right there what difference does it make that he gets it? He is not a white woman, because he says so the charges by white women are dismissed?”
No, this does not dismiss them. Even if he had been a white woman, he can’t speak for the entire race or for people who have racist thoughts or behaviors anyway. It matters that he as a white person has the understanding that he does about racism and white privilege and is attempting to help others understand it as well. Like I said, to me it’s refreshing to see that a white person can get it instead of hearing ignorant comments that dismiss racism or white privilege.
Just because I don’t get offended or have an attitude every single time a white person has something constructive to say concerning racism doesn’t mean I value their opinion over my own or feel validated.
“The moment this article was named “White Guy Explains Why ‘Sh-t White Girls Say…to Black Girls’ Isn’t Racist” the intention was made very clear.”
You’re seeing what you want to see. The title is just a description of what the video is. If it said something like “Final Word: White Guy Explains Why ‘Sh-t White Girls Say…to Black Girls’ Isn’t Racist”, I would agree with you.
fawn eyed…this tonton guy lol he’s good..he’s pretty good, lol.
I made this video to address white people who, because of unconscious prejudice, are not able to hear a message like this without seeing a white face. It’s a sad fact of systemic oppression that the voices of the oppressed are so delegitimized that pointing out the truth is easily written off as complaining or playing the race card.
I did not read/watch any other reactions before I made my video, but simply felt compelled to speak and then did so. I am not trying to take any power away from black voices… only to use my privilege to back them up.
Feel free to email me (info@futuretalk.co) to discuss this topic, the video or anything further.
Peace.
#high5 to this guy! And like someone else stated on here, he pretty much explained why he was moved to make the video but I guess you can’t win for losing. Keep up the fair logic sir :)
I understand his points, but he loses me with the whole “voices of the oppressed” nonsense. I find that many white liberals want to put black people in the “these poor, helpless, put-upon Negroes” box, and I’m not having it. I am not oppressed, no one I know is oppressed, and I am sure the creator of the original video is not oppressed. I get it: you want to call out racism in America. Fine. But, black people are not oppressed; we are thriving and always have been. We don’t need your pity. And, frankly, I would rather deal with a right-winger who I KNOW doesn’t like me because of my skin color than a liberal who dresses up his disdain and supposed superiority with vows of concern and white guilt.
Your sarcasm isn’t really necessary here. Futuretalk seems completely aware of his own white privilege, and the fact that he’s considered more credible by his white peers. This was a comment he left on his video:
“This video was really made for white folks who, because of unconscious prejudice, wouldn’t be able to hear this message without seeing my white face.”
I think we’re all in agreement that it’s annoying but necessary for a white man to say the things we’ve already said in order for it to be heard by the masses. It’s not about validation, but visibility. So, your comment suggesting that we’re ecstatic because a white man is onboard with us–or that he feels he’s right just because he’s white–was uncalled for.
this response was directed to Tonton Michel.
“I think we’re all in agreement that it’s annoying but necessary for a white man to say the things we’ve already said in order for it to be heard by the masses.”
The hell you say, so because he says it the masses will listen to him? Where have you seen that work before? Last time the I checked whites were less likely to listen to one of their own on the subject of race than they would the people being subjected to it. The only thing thing proven here is that this dudes validation is worth it’s weight in gold with some people on here.
“Last time the I checked whites were less likely to listen to one of their own on the subject of race than they would the people being subjected to it.”
That’s not necessarily true. Most of the people commenting on his video were white (they made a point to say the were) and thanked him for his perspective. So, I have to disagree with you about that.
“It’s great to hear a white guy NOT claim “reverse racism!” or freak out when PoC decide to have a little fun with their Shit Girls Say spinoffs, but it’s also equally disheartening to read the YouTube comments praising him for his insights when PoC have said the same exact thing in their videos, only to be lambasted for being “too sensitive/reading too much in it/get a life already.” I know you mean well, but it sucks that people need to hear a *white* man say all this in order to agree.”
^^This is the highest rated comment on the video. Its clear that the majority of black people watching it feel this way. While a few women have definitely gotten a little ‘fawn eyed’ about the fact that he ‘gets it,’ the majority of us aren’t throwing ourselves to our knees and thanking massa for speaking on our behalf. They simply just appreciate the fact that someone can communicate to “others” what we know to be true.
And I know what you’re probably thinking. Why should we even care if “they” understand? Frankly, I don’t. The entire reverse racism debate was so ridiculous that I never even wasted my energy on trying to refute it. I didn’t comment on this post to say “THANK YOU” to him. Just to question your snarky remark.

I am not talking about his video I am talking in terms of history.
.

No I am thinking you should put down the pom poms.
OMG…. THANK YOU!!! White people have NO IDEA of what it is like to get these comments and unnecessary judgements because of what is portrayed in the media. In the “shyt white girls say to black women” video… I have heard them all. I grew up in rural white America… those comments are annoying and come from an ignorant source, just like ol boy said. Neither side should be upset. White girls calm down, black girls, get ya rah rah on for a min, but check yourself too… we do some pretty annoying stuff too and you know it.
Future Talk, I appreciate what you have to say. All your points are so valid and the delivery was superb. Thanks again. This was a video I unexpectedly enjoyed.
Is he single? :D
Awesome.
WHITE SAVIOUR ALARM.
everybody put on waterproofs, inflate life jackets,
standby for ‘open umbrella’ command.
prepare to board lifeboats
it’s about to get mighty wet in here.
roflmbao
lol! yeah it’s getting kind white savioury in here…
Funny! Yes, it is turning into a chapter of “How to Pick Up Black Chicks”
seriously.
LOL. You not right for that….
So Eloquently Put. He totally gets it. THANK YOU!!
Another interesting one you should all watch is: ‘Shite White guys say to Asian Girls’. The comments are very interesting and similar discussion around white stereotyping.
His video doesn’t bother at all
… although I am on par with those of you who are annoyed by the Black ghostwriter/White cosigner syndrome that seems to plague American society
What’s even more alarming are the loads of Black female commentators who wet their panties because a White man has shown that he can be logical, sensible and well… normal
“We” have such low standards for White people. They can show us that they are just as socially aware as we are and we give them all kinds of rewards and accolades
Really Black women? That’s all a White man has to do to be considered “sexy” by some of you? *serious side-eye*
I agree 100%. Somebody had to say it.
@Hmmm
“I agree 100%. Somebody had to say it.”
Im just glad it wasnt me.
Well I’m not sure that anyone (except me) gets what’s really going in the what white girl say to black girls videos.
Seems to me that it aint white girls getting dissed.
What you’re really seeing is a token white girl (the actress) saying all the patronizing things white people say to blacks and getting away with it because she’s black chick pretending to mock white chicks.
In fact – all the what x says to y videos creep me out in their racism, how come there isn’t a what white men say video?
All the usual powerless groups are targetted while the most vile perpetrators of verbal violence are left untouched.
Sickening
damn cowards – white men too big to take on huh?
I laughed when I first the saw what white girls say vid, but then watching the body language of the actress in them, a creepy feeling came over me. I felt alienated by her. Vibe didn’t feel right. I wasn’t getting that FAMILY-ar sista vibe.
Then I recalled all the male nigros I know who pride themselves on being the only black in some all white setting and I asked myself – would I find it so funny if one of those nigros “white voiced” a tirade of white male on black male isms, on the pretext of exposing “friendly” racism?
No, I wouldn’t find it funny at all because I know they identify more strongly with whites than blacks and what they were really doing is using the what x says to y device to show their sympathy with whites patronising attitudes to blacks.
Sorry
but that’s how I see it.
@ SM
Your posts are quite informative, and always grammatically on point-do you tutor English?! I’m looking to get on you and Marlow Shakespear’s level. However, I just wanted to point out, that you mispelled *nigro*, it supposed to be nEgro. I don’t know whether, it was intentional, or not but while reading your post I kinda took offense to that misspelation.
Regards,
African Mami
Chief Police Officer of Grammar and Spelling, although I don’t police my own lingua franca.
@African Mami (that name lol)
Thanks for the “compliment”
I think – mmm?
erm – well I actually try not to be grammatically correct, I prefer to use to slang/ abbreviated english eg “aint” rather than “isn’t” or “is not”. However sometimes slang isn’t enough to articulate a complicated concept. That’s when I fall back on standard english.
The “nigro” spelling was intentional, to denote my disdain for uncle tom types. When I’m speaking of black people, I say – black people. When I’m speaking of toms I say -
nigros.
LOL!
Anyway, if you really think your English could improve (seems fine to me), I hope you aim to achieve a much higher standard of English or Americanish (lol) than mine.
@SM,
Sumth’n wrong with my name?!
There ARE ‘shit white guys say’ videos in youtube, its as simple as typing ‘shit white guys say’ in the search, and hey presto.
They don’t have as much views though… but theyre there.
It’s not just applicable in America I afraid. England had slaves too remember and owned America whilst doing it, All those british surnames you got didnt fall from the sky.
Black women have to put up with racism all around the world, in the UK we have the exact same issues.
The white dude is right….’white saviour’ shcmite schmaviour, Francesca’s vid was great….love its simplicity and its realness (theyre reffering to it as a satirical caricature….but most Black women would be able to tell you that growing up in white dominated countries that they would have had all of those comments said to them.
basically he’s right. When people think of racism they tend to refer to how it relates to Black men….hardly ever has a Black womans daily life and daily intake of microaggresive ignorance racist comments that we receive from everyone even including Black men (light skin/dark skin girl thing).
I can not imagine what it would feel like to be a ‘Blank slate’ ?? not have to prove how intelligent or ‘worthy’, non-criminal, un-ghetto, trustworthy, articulate, beautiful you are and just be.
………white privilege must be blissful
(nice to hear a dude not criticising Black women for a refreshing change too)
@OneSweet
“I can not imagine what it would feel like to be a ‘Blank slate’ ?? not have to prove how intelligent or ‘worthy’, non-criminal, un-ghetto, trustworthy, articulate, beautiful you are and just be.”
Why cant you extend that same benefit of the doubt to those black men you just accused of being racist toward black women about skin color as if black women dont implant these ideas in the minds of black children since birth. Come off it.
That’s where you come in, QON.
Your azz-kissing alone will help bolster the wilting esteems of all those black males in this world :)
You should be proud.
I’m really glad he did the video. I want people to realize that the purpose of the video wasn’t for us, its for the white people that were offended by the video. You see, there is very little chance for someone from an minority group to correct something about a majority group (they wouldn’t get it because they would be resistant, ’cause who are you to tell them anything as a minority member). Anyway, I appreciate his response and everything he is saying is true.
