“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; But often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us.” – Helen Keller
Many times when things don’t work out we focus on what was lost, instead of focusing on what was gained. For instance, I was recently contacted to work on a cool freelance project, but when I responded they’d given it away to someone else. While I could have wallowed in the fact that I missed out on a gig, I realized that they still wanted me…just at a later date. Had I focused on the negative, I would have never noticed or appreciated that I was still able to participate.
Although it may be difficult to wrap our brains around how a setback can really be a set up for success, give it a shot. Every situation–no matter good or bad–presents an opportunity to do something great. Focus on the positives and good things will continue to happen.
