A suburban Chicago baseball coach is just the latest person to learn that whatever is said on Facebook does not stay on a Facebook.

After watching the media’s coverage of singer Whitney Houston’s death, John Kelly took to his Facebook page to express his frustration with the coverage.

Kelly ranted“I’m so sick if reading about this dumb stupid N—– Whitney Houston..she’s the dumb ass that decided to do drugs n kill herself stay with that woman beater … she blew more $$ up her nose than most of ye will make in yer lifetime … there are kids dying real fathers n mothers fighting for their lives…grow up ye dumb assess…think she’d give a flying f— about u???? Just saying.”

Kelly says he made the comments because he was upset the media was touting Houston as a role model, but it was his use of the n-word that got him into hot water with the players and supervisors of Westside Baseball of Oak Lawn.

After his post was forwarded by the mother of a former player who was upset over Kelly’s use of a racial slur (she is black), he was benched by Westside Baseball, stripped of his leadership position as president of the board, and barred from coaching for a year. However, Kelly can regain his position after he completes a racial sensitivity course.

Kelly says this incident has “ruined his life” and that he “didn’t even realize” he used the n-word until he posted the remark on Facebook.

He explains: “I regret using that adjective,” Kelly told the Sun-Times. “Does that make me a racist? Are you kidding me? It was the farthest thing from my mind. I have some amazing friends who are black.”

So….using the n-word “just happened” even though you normally don’t use such language? Yeah, right.

What do you think? Did Westside Baseball take the right actions or should they have fired Kelly all together?

    “I have…friends who are black”:

This is the mantra of every racist person.

  • womanistmusings

White folk need to stop pretending that being called a racist is worse than living with racism. Of course he’s a racist and no amount of sensitivity training is going to fix that. No one slips and accidentally uses the N word.

  • chanela

hell a lot of white people who freely use the word nigga (the same damn word) DO have black friends. how the hell else would they know that its acceptable in everyday conversation? why get mad??

  • rhirhi-hater

no one accidently types it thats for sure

  • African Mami

I feel some type of way about this…I feel like I can never fully trust a white person not to harbor prejudice! I don’t care whether they were raised by a black mother and the blackest father on earth, but I just feel that way. I feel like every and any white person has the potential of disappointing me! The use of the “n” word brings out EMOTIONS in me. I’ve been called that and I can tell you-I ALMOST caught a case!-well not literally, but you get how it went down.

  • sli

OMG, that Twitter and Facebook, again! When will people learn? I think they took the right actions. He has a long time to reflect on what he did. I guess, while ranting whether Whitney is a role model, he forgot that he was one, too. So what does his players think of him now?

  • Zy

he didn’t “realize” he’d used the word until AFTER he’d posted it to his page and yet… he didn’t take the post down? I swear, the comedy relief these morons provide is unmatched! LOL

  • Velma

So what? He has a right to say what he wants to on his Facebook page. However, when one is in an important position it is left to the employer to make that call. Sure, have a sit down with him, but to suspend him would be ridiculous.

  • Yb

    +1 Exact same sentiments

  • marais morris

but did this racist POS ever say a mumbling word about amy winehouse? prob not. or elvis. prob not. yet he expects people to believe that he is not a racist. and to think that black parents had entrusted this POS with their kids. and i will bet EVERYTHING that he NEVER ONCE POSTED anything about BERNIE MADOFF on his facebook page. why? because he did not care until it was a black person getting more media coverage than his racist rant evr will.

  • Mimi

If you don’t even realize that you post a racist comment, that says to me that you use racist comments so much in your life, that its like breathing to you. You don’t even realize when you’re doing it because its second nature.

You know how I can tell when a person is racist? When they always feel the need to let you know that they have black friends.

  • Dalili

When will people in positions of power learn social media outlets are not the venue for personal heated rants? He could have avoided ‘ruining his life’ by:

    a) Reading or watching news unrelated to Whitney’s death; there were plenty of other things going on.
    b) Avoid using such a derogatory and incendiary term on a public forum…am sure he has befriended some of his players’ parents.

I think the racial sensitivity classes are a waste of time; can’t teach an old dog new tricks. And I wonder if he would ever use the ‘N’ word in the context he did around his black friends?

    Utter foolishness!

    Utter foolishness!

  • rand

Glad this has ruined his life. That’s exactly what racists deserve. The school should fire him immediately & teach others the lesson that his type of bigotry is not tolerated in the halls of education.

  • T. Ronise

“I have some amazing friends who are black.” Way to clean it up sir. GTFOH!

  • mluv

he has a right to say whatever he wants; its his opinion. However, in my opinion, i feel he should have some decency, respect and compassion. He’s not the first white person to complain about a public black figure being honored so i am not surprised.

People kill me when they want to point out and get mad about other peoples flaws but refuse to own up to their own and he is a racist.

And This wasn’t his personal diary, this was facebook. He knew well in his mind he has “friends that are black” on facebook and in reality ;so he’s a dumb ass for posting that for all to see in the first place.

I hate the use of the N word, from any race/background, in any context, Its a word that sadly in our society, we’ve made it acceptable.

  • Gee Head

I don’t even think the n- word is an adjective for the most part, as indicated by a posting above from the originator. Learn parts of the English language before you use it.
    nig·ger   [nig-er]
    Usage note NOUN
The term nigger is now probably the most offensive word in English. Its degree of offensiveness has increased markedly in recent years, although it has been used in a derogatory manner since at least the Revolutionary War. Definition are considered contemptuous and hostile.

Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive .
black person. a member of any dark-skinned people.
    2. Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive . a person of any race or origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc.
3.a victim of prejudice similar to that suffered by blacks; a person who is economically, politically, or socially disenfranchised.

  • thinkpink

Could not agree with your comment more. I see this so frequently. The outrage flies when the person being covered is of color but a non black person would rarely receive the same level of vitriol.

  • DolphinsandPuppies

LOL – I know right! I believe “dumb” and “stupid were the adjectives. I can’t believe he will be able to get his job back eventually.

  • DolphinsandPuppies

You think they would come up with another line other than the old “I have black friends” argument. Hey at least he’s exposed himself for the true racist he is. There are so many others walking around with their invisible KKK hoods on smiling in black folks faces.

  • I got sense!

That’s what I was thinking. He’s acting like it’s justifiable. Both of his issues are HIS. Why call Whitney the N-word b/c of what the New Jersey governor wanting ppl to lower their flags but it was not required. And if you are tired of watching/reading things about her, then STOP! Really!?!!?? Why throw a bitch fit and post it on Facebook. Idiot! It just doesn’t make sense and only helps to me better understand why kids act a damn fool… b/c they are being raised by fools. He is a racist and will forever be one.

    Case closed

  • Tonton Michel

He deserved the punishment he got and was all in favor of him getting his job back right up till these parts right here, “and that he “didn’t even realize” he used the n-word until he posted the remark on Facebook……….It was the farthest thing from my mind. I have some amazing friends who are black.”, that sir is a deal breaker. Apparently your black friends were the farthest thing from your mind as well when you typed this. Either you are some one who is immature, impulsive, shortsighted ignorant and incompetent, or you are a damn liar. What ever it is you have no business working with kids till you figure it all out.

  • binks

Exactly! This dude should have been fired, I wouldn’t trust him around kids since he is so liberal with his words.

  • mamareese

Yes, he shoud be penalized simply because as a school official his opinion of anything racial should be gray during public forums. Just as the President can’t make his racial preferences or prejudgices know, anyone in a position that is exposed to multiple races shouldn’t ethier. If you feel like you have to get things off your chest that bad then maybe you should find another line of work that doesn’t depend on your ability to be and remain diverse or find an anonymous outlet. Plus, when are folks gonna undestand that once you put this mess out into the cyber world…it’s there FOREVER…there is truly no such thing as delete….so use your better judgement off top. I think he’d now agree that get his 2 cents in on something that it over and none of use can or could control is not worth his job.

  • artwell moyo

Whoever debases others is debasing himself…

  • allegra

the fact that the guy “didn’t realize” he included the word means he doesn’t think anything of using it. its just like if you accidentally curse in an inappropriate environment & don’t even realize it bc you say the words so often

  • Eric X

This cocksucker should be fired immediately! Just like a racist ass white man to say “I’m not racist I have some amazing black friends” to try mass his guilt.. just keep it real John Kelly.. you were just being who you are and got caught with your dumb ass.

Everyone who passes from this life deserves the common decency of respect to at least this woman’s family regardless of what flaws they may have had. And this asshole will possibly be allowed to mentor children again!.. The arrogance of white people. And you wonder why this country is so divided. JACKASS!!!!

  • Blasé

thought it might be too harsh but anyone that uses “ye” and “yer” sounds like that Epperley bigot who says Kenya is still a colony and Obama isn’t a natural citizen of america… he got what he deserved.

  • Karen

How do this MF think we black folks feel when we see enless coverage of a bunch rednecks (celebs) all over the media. Maaan this cracker need to go sit down and shut the F’k up. White people surely don’t think at all before speaking and claim to be sooo intelligent.

  • Shirl

I wonder how many of his black friends will stick around after this. How do you not know you typed the N word…seriously

  • secret6

Of course he’s not racist. He has some AMAZING black friends to prove it!

  • D-Ski

No sirc this man should keep his job. We (black people victims of racism) need to stop being surprised or angry when this common theme occurs. This seems to be a distraction from way bigger issues that we have to deal with within areas we reside. We need to stop helping them refine their system especially with words. Please allow free dialouge so black people can become less confused.

  • Misty_Moonsilver

Typical. White person accused of being racist, first thing they say is how they have a black friend….. I don’t think he’ll have those black friends after this….

  • kd_ncali4nia

He should not be coaching baseball, or in a leadership position. You have the right to “free speech”, which keeps you out of jail, but not employed DUMB**S!

  • jaj

Of course it is gone though to say dumb cracker, etc. more hypocrisy from the cry-victim group…
