Oh, dear. Another day, another example of people trying to make light of inappropriate issues.

On Friday, Belvedere Vodka came under fire for its ad joking about sexual assault, and today, The Root reported a story about Chops & Hops, a Georgia restaurant, that said it’s “black and bleu” sandwich was inspired by Chris Brown and Rihanna’s 2009 assault.

From the Chops & Hops Facebook page:

Well we were going to do @TimTebow today but decided to trade for a sure thing this week. Instead @chrisbrown, @rihanna and us teamed up for a award winning celebrity sandwich. Put your hands on this caribbean black and bleu sandwich. Caribbean spiced marinated sliced ribeye blackened then look out for the bleu cheese, sliced tomato, silver Lamborghini onions, and shredded romaine. Chris Brown won’t beat you up for eating this unless your name starts with a R and ends with A.

Of course, once people saw the tweets and Facebook message, outrage ensued…because, you know, joking about domestic violence isn’t funny. After folks called out Chops & Hops for its egregious message, the restaurant issued a predictable apology.

“The owners of C&H would like to make sure everyone knows that we and our staff DO NOT SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. Many of us have been affected by domestic violence in some manner and realize that this is no joke,” Mychell Lang wrote. “We have been involved in fundraising for Project Safe Team 6 and we fully intend on donating proceeds (times 6 – in honor of Team 6) from the sales of the burger. C&H continues to strive for a community driven, family oriented, great food and great service environment. We will continue to be involved in our community fundraising and charities near and dear to our hearts.”

Right. Until the next offensive marketing ploy, of course.

this mother effers are making advertising look like the devil!!!!!! when it is one of the most creative industries to ever be involved in

All these recent apologies just sound stupid to me. How can you say “promise not to beat you up” but then say “we don’t support dv, its not a joke”. It was a joke 10 mins ago when u sent out that tweet. Your phony and I see right threw you. Learn how to come political correct or don’t speak at all!

Ok I agree this marketing ploy was somewhat in bad taste (no pun intended)..But honestly…Rihanna has done nothing but make light of her assault so I wouldn’t blame others for following suite. I would be more offended if the restaurant was making a statement about domestic violence in general, rather than poking fun at the specific Rihanna-Chris Brown incident. These two are the ones that have inappropriately “made light” of the issue of domestic violence.

They knew what they were doing. Some companies will do anything for attention, whether positive or negative. 10 minutes ago you probably never knew that a place called Chops n’ Hops existed, and now because of their post you do. It worked.

That burger looks good but the advertising for it was uncalled for I am sick of the apologies and the we didn’t mean to offend excuses. I think they need to start fining these companies if they don’t want to advertise responsibly…shrugs

Honestly, Chris Brown and Rihanna making light of racist (i.e. “Niggerbitch”) and sexist incidents do not help at all. They just make other people think it is okay to make light of it.

Yall think this is bad then get to know the exe chef of the place. It gets much worse

I know the Chef was trying to be creative and start a lucrative celebrity burger series, but this is pretty insensitive. The Whitney Houston Burger is even worse: a burger with white powder and sea salt sprinkled on top.
