Stephon, a Prince George’s Community College student who was born deaf, had the chance to shake hands with President Obama at an energy policy event in the Washington D.C. area. When Stephon made it through the crowd and was face to face with our nation’s leader he signed “I am proud of you.” To his elation, Obama signed back “thank you.” Watch:

Stephon later vlogged that meeting the president was an experience he’d never forget, explaining:

“It was so amazing…I was just speechless. Right after he thanked me, he smiled at another deaf lady who signed “I love you.” When I shook his hand it did not feel like he was superior to me. He was just a humble man. I am just impressed by him and know that he will have my vote and he will win second term without a doubt. Yeah, I feel safe to have him for another term.”

To add to this unforgettable moment in Stephon’s life, the White House Twitter account shared the video of the encounter with its followers.

President Obama, keeping it classy and inclusive at all times!

pretty cool (: I was talking to some friends this weekend, and we were discussing how if we want President Obama to have a second term, we can’t get complacent. We are going to have to bring that same energy and enthusiasm (and time and money,) we brought to his campaign the first time around.
