The initial purpose of the miss Black Whatever pageants was/is to create self-awareness and there cultivate self-love in women of color. The self-hatred that exist within the ranks of women of color is destructive to all. Ignoring this creates havoc for everyone and leaves nothing but destruction in its wake.
IMO – France would have less of a problem if the physical traits of most of the girls represented people of more hybridized ancestry. If most those girls were part white, and looked more mixed, I doubt they’d have an issue.
