Global Grooves: What International Artists Do You Love?
It’s no secret, I love music. I’ve written about it many times here at CLUTCH and have shared many of the artists that I’ve loved from the US and the UK. But lately, I’ve been listening outside of the box.
Because the African diaspora is vast…I find myself listening to music from around the globe.
Lately I’ve been rocking Nneka’s latest album, Soul Is Heavy and Rwandan artist Iyadede’s haunting groove, “The Love Mantra” (which she dedicated to Trayvon Martin).
When I want to dance, I’ll throw on La Reina (the Queen) Celia Cruz (especially ‘Azucar Negra’), La India, or Fela Kuti and let my hips rock to the rhythm. Some days I’ll put on Samba to brighten the mood, and if I’m feeling introspective and want to chill, I’ll listen to Miriam Makeba, Jah Cure or Richie Spice.
Music has a way of being just what I need, no matter the mood….but how about you?
When it comes to music from around the world, what artists do you love to listen to?
