Hmm, nice article….it shows that it can happen to anyone. I often fear about falling into a verbally abusive relationship even though I never been in a serious relationship i still worry about it because I know I am the type of person to rationalize situations and if by chance I am the one to discover I am being verbally abusive it’ll be far to after the fact of when he already done it.
During the time, there were a lot of movies on domestic violence, I wondered how I would get out of the situation, if it occured. I know that it wouldn’t be as if I would be inclined to stay with the nut; I have bad nerves. I get nervous very easily, so I couldn’t think well about things. My heart would be beating a lot; I would be unable to function.
My first boyfriend is the victim of physical abuse, but never raised his hand at me. There he was at age 25 and knew no resemblance of security, morality nor respect; he was narcissitic and not inclined to improve his life. Luckily, our dating came to a halt after three months. I would love to know how he’s doing now.

Thank you for being brave enough to talk about this. I think Domestic Violence has become a taboo in our community. The truth is, everyone is vulnerable. Domestic Violence transcends race, gender, sexuality and socioeconomic status. If one person is a victims in our community, we are all affected. We need more people to raise awareness as it is fast becoming the number one cause of fatalities for African-American women in some states. We need to teach our daughters and sons that Domestic Violence is not just a family affair, it is a criminal offense. Thank you for your bravery!
