Shonda Rhimes is on a roll. Not only is she one of the most popular show runners in TV today with hits like Greys Anatomy and Private Practice under her belt, but she recently launched her latest show Scandal. Despite her packed schedule, the writer/producer doesn’t spend all of her time on set, she’s also a mom.

After 9/11 Rhimes says she reevaluated her life. In an interview with Oprah, the writer said she made a list of things she wanted to do, and despite being single, she always wanted to be a mom.

Rhimes recalled: “So I was sitting in the middle of nowhere, watching the whole terrible thing unfold on CNN. When I finally turned off the television, I thought, “Well, if the world’s going to end, what are all the things I’ve ever wanted to do?” I went home and hired an adoption attorney.”

Rhimes adopted her daughter Harper, and recently added another baby to their busy family.

In February, Rhimes  adopted Emerson Pearl and is ecstatic about the new addition.

Although her schedule is quite busy, Rhimes says that little Emerson has fit right in, and she and her daughters are enjoying some quality bonding time.

“Emerson is incredibly mellow,” she told US Weekly Rhimes. “We’re just doing a lot of bonding right now. This is a happy time — I feel so lucky.”

Congrats to Rhimes and her family!

From her comments on twitter she’s not gay ( not saying you are saying that..;) ..maybe she just did not find the right guy. She is 42 so the natural thing is not likely.

Smart lady. Those girls get a mom and she gets heirs and motherhood. We adopted a boy and the next will be a girl.

This is awesome. I ‘kinda’ see adoption somewhere in my future, I think it’s great to give love & care to children who can’t receive the same from their birth parents.

    Congrats to Shonda!
