From Frugivore — Don’t let obesity or unhealthy habits take over your life. Many people have gym members, but never go. Others are just not a fan of the whole gym scene period. None of this is an excuse to not take care of yourself. You body is your temple and if you don’t take care of it then no one will. Here are some great workouts that are fun, simple and can be done outside of the gym.

Walking This one is a no brainer. Walking is a great workout and you will see results sooner than you think. You can burn a tremendous amount of calories just from walking to the places you have to go to and leaving the car at me. A recent Harvard studyshows that walking at a moderate pace (3 mph) for up to 3 hours a week — or 30 minutes a day — can cut the risk of heart disease in women by as much as 40%. This is the same benefit you would get from aerobics, jogging, or other vigorous exercise. Other benefits include:

  • improved circulation
  • helps breathing
  • combats depression
  • bolsters the immune system
  • helps prevent osteoporosis
  • helps prevent and control diabetes

The weather is getting nice so take advantage of it and enjoy a nice, relaxing walk.

Gardening

For those of you who love to dig in the dirt and plant beautiful flowers and bushes, this is also a great workout. The constant digging and arm movement burns calories and helps to tone those biceps and triceps. According to MSN Health, other health benefits of gardening are:

    My health comes before anything. I’m in shape with my life in order by thinking positively, eating healthy, exercising (I jog) and doing things that I love.
    Dancing is great, depending on the type you can get a full body workout. Wining to soca helped me lose my freshman 15.

    And I never thought much about biking on an actual bike. I’ve gotten so used to the stationary ones. I like all of these, except for the gardening.

    Hopefully walking will lead to running. Running changed my LIFE!!! I’m part of a grp called Black Girl’s Run. You need to do an article on them. There’s a website & FB grp. It’s expanded across the U.S. & promotes good health towards AA women.

    Great article. I work out 5 days a week. I sometimes take Zumba classes twice a week and I either use the elliptical machine or Cybex Arc Trainer the other 3 days a week. Walking is another exercise I enjoin. I walk to and from work which takes me approximately 20-21 minutes depending on my speed.
