Director Kevin McDonald’s Bob Marley documentary, titled simply Marley, has already been hailed as a masterpiece by viewers who’ve had a sneak peek. The film compiles unseen archival footage and interviews with those who knew the icon of music and culture best, and promises a more intimate and accurate look at the singer than any previous works to date. Discussion of Marley’s biracialism, religion, political views, relationships with women, and devotion to his children are promised by the film’s website (which also boasts an additional five trailers for the film).

The cool part: Marley will be released on April 20 both in theaters and on-demand via Facebook for $6.99, with a portion of the proceeds going to the charity Save the Children. Those of you familiar with Bob Marley and his connection to marijuana will also recognize that the release date — 4/20, a very special day in cannabis culture — would probably make him smile.

I love Bob Marley so much, but this documentary doesn’t seem any different than the many others that are about him, so idk if I’ll be going to see it.
