Studying fashion design at Kent University and being a designer for various manufacturers, Christine Mhando to create her own fashion brand, Chichia.

Christine designs playful printed basics with an East African twist. The organic cotton and cotton mixes used to create Chichia’s signature pieces are made in Africa and transformed into jersey.

The designer was born in Tanzania, but moved to London at the age 10 years old. She travels back to Tanzania as it will always be considered home

To aid Made of Africa’s concept of supporting local projects, one US dollar of the wholesale value of every garment sold goes towards assisting in education for the children at the SOS Children’s Village in Tanzania.

Her Spring 2012 collection, “Naishi Niwezavyo Siishi Mtakavyo” is inspired by her home country celebrating 50 years of independence and to showcase individuality. Florals, ornate patterns, curvy stripes, graphic check and flashes of East African colors match the youthful silhouettes of her garments perfectly.

Some of her biggest achievements: being featured in Marie Claire, Grazia as well as Cosmopolitan magazine and being a part of ARISE Magazine’s Fashion Week to support Tanzanian model, Flaviana Matata.
